The Best, Worst, and Weirdest of Codemasters' F1 (09-21)

Holy crap I know you needed a wheel for some research but THIS WAS A LOT OF RESEARCH. Awesome work mate.

As a former designer on the F1 franchise (2010-2016), thanks for the trip down memory lane. We had a small, tight knit, and dedicated team back then, each of us a fan of Formula 1, who put in hours and hours to try and make the best games that we could. Admittedly we got some things wrong, but it seems we also got a hell of a lot right. It's heartwarming to hear that games my teammates, many of whom are still amongst my favourite people in the world, and I helped create are actually loved by so many people. Gonna share this with them as soon as I get chance. :-)

A little bit of additional trivia for you - whilst I was writing the credits music for F1 2015, a guy called Glen A Larson passed away. 26:22 And unfortunately, as I recently found out, F1 2012 and 2014 through 2019 are no longer available for purchase as of March. An entire generation of F1 games gone snap just like that. Looks like 2020's still alive and well, but you might wanna consider buying it soon before the inevitable happens...

7:12 this is actually fully legal in actual F1, you can overtake on the pit entry and exit even when the track is under caution

The way you managed to interweave the old and the new games isn't only refreshing, it's actually very useful to your recap. That's fantastic work. If you ever come to the Montréal GP, beer's on me :)

It speaks volumes of how much EA have obliterated their own reputation that the instant Codemasters got bought out, everyone immediately concluded that this was the end of good Codemaster games

I cant think of anyone else that would go through every year of the same racing franchise and be able to appreciate the differences in every single one. You're doin gods work Lucas.

My dad got me F1 2010 for my birthday when I was around 9 or 10, hearing the start up music and transition at 10:24 gave me goosebumps. I still occasionally go back to it and is definitely regarded as a game way ahead of its time.

Quick little note on f1 2013. I was able to download the entire game onto an admittedly shitty lap top, and it runs perfectly smooth. I don't have a lot of spare cash so I can never really afford decent PCs/consoles or their games, so being able to experience 2013 without issues was a godsend.

54:29 Dear God, that's some of the most realistic F1 AI I have ever seen - they were replicating Q3 at Monza in 2019 when noone wanted to give a tow to anyone.

I love how this guy can talk me an entire hour about a franchise that I never played before and still be entertaining, reminds me of Ahoy

45:08 Yeah Mark Knight's soundtracks were absolute bangers from 2015 to 2017. Too bad he left Codemasters but that's life. Miss his F1 compositions.
