  • Clarification needed. As someone else in the comments pointed out to me. Although yes, Christine had a 5.2 litre engine in the movie within the more than 20 cars of her that were used for some of the driving. The engine seen repairing herself and in the photo used, was the 5.7 litre, 350 Cubic Inch Golden Commando, with 305 hp two 4-barrel carburetors. Future references will try to clarify this better as more than one engine was used in production.
  • The two films Christine and The Car are definitely the best car related films ever .
  • I would say 'The Car' was stood the test of time not because it's "so bad it's good," but because the car itself is so damned cool.
  • In 1977 I was 9 yrs. old and "The Car" scared the hell out of me especially the horn. I would have to make it #1.

Christine is definitely my all-time favorite Stephen King film adaptation....the three scenes depicting the car's 'revenge' of the three school bullies were incredible...I still get chills watching the car, engulfed in flames, run down the leader of the three bullies...the accompanying scary music that played as the car ran him over , was some of the scariest music ever put to a horror film.

Christine is by far one of the best love stories ever wrote and filmed. I've been in love with that Fury ever since I first saw it.

MFP if you ever watched the cartoon "Futurama" you will see a direct reference to "The Car" in an episode where Bender is infected by a "were-car" and morphs into a car. His morphed form looks exactly like "The Car"

The car. That was one of the first scary movie I can remember.

Definitely Duel and The Car are the most memorable for me as simply unique characters. The truck seemed so non-threatening at first, just being a road hog. But as the chase ensued and the speed picked up it took on a whole new image without changing a spot of oil or rust. The Car always looked 'evil-y stylish' to me. Something I would and wouldn't want to ride around in. And the more one realizes it's simplicity having no door handles, key holes, antenna, wipers or latches, the more evil and mysterious it becomes.

One of the best aspects of The Car is that a lot of mystery remains. It's never explained what exactly it is or where it came from. I saw it when I was a kid and I wanted to know everything but it's left as a huge unknown. You even get to see from its perspective, but you get no clues as to its origin.

The Car was the scariest for me. That horn!!
  • I can understand 'Christine' being number one, but I'm so glad 'The Car' popped up at number 2. Yeah, the end scene is pretty cheesy but the film as a whole had some truly terrifying scenes in it: You don't even see The Car first time in Sherriff Wade's garage, but by God it scares the bejesus out of you when you do. Also when it kills Lauren by flying through her house is a masterpiece of editing; the extended silence that follows as the light bulb swings from the ceiling literally leaves you speechless. Such a shame the film was buried under the media surrounding the box office hits of the time, it's a film that thoroughly deserves its cult status and it is in no way a low-budget-looking 'B' movie. So glad it's been released on Blu-Ray!
  • In 1977, my mom treated me and my two sisters to a trip to Disneyland with a side-stop at Universal Studios. This was time before all the amusement park rides. It was just a tram ride through the working lot that ended at the center where the animal show and Frankenstein monster makeup demo took place. There was one more show, but I can't remember what it was. But during the tram ride I remember driving by a dirt parking lot and parked along the fence were several recognizable movie and TV cars, just sitting out in the hot sun and all covered with what looked like months worth of dust. One of those cars was Peter Falk's old jalopy from his Columbo series, but a couple of old cop cars away was the Lincoln from The Car, a movie I had just seen and loved (I was 14). And though the tram's tour guide prattled off the sites (I think this was pre-scripts), no mention was made of the Lincoln, though he did point out Columbo's car. I still have the photos I took of both cars with my little rectangular Kodak Instamatic.

Being from the Pittsburgh Area, Christine is a huge favorite here. The book was a dedication to George Romero.
  • Once you had the Peterbilt from Duel (which is a superb film) at number 3, there were only two that could have taken the top spots, The Car and Christine. Both were no brainers in this rundown

Christine takes the spot for me as the most beautiful vehicle on this list, and also the one with the most "personality". The car was an actual character, with emotions and feelings, jealous and angry and possessive, and she was evil and vengeful. The car was actually in love with Arnie, and was savagely protective of him, hunting down his bullies, but of course taking it all too far and going overboard on the evil. And what a beautiful car; nobody makes cars like that anymore, the style, chrome, the finish, the sound. While The Car may have been scarier, Christine was a better film.

I remember the car it scared the crap out of me .the sound it made the screaming sounds left a impression
