What’s ironic about this scene is that it is the father who seems much more accepting than the mother.

The sad thing is it literally took death for her parents to say I love you

Btw, Anjelica Ross requested no rehearsing of these scenes beforehand because she wanted to capture the emotion and spontaneousness of everything. She succeeded.....

"I wanted my baby to have what he- what SHE wanted" 😭😭❤️
  • When the dad said “ I can’t let you go we’re just getting started” i passed out 😢😢😢😢
  • As confused as her parent may seem in this moment...its also clear that she is loved by them....maybe not understood....but loved.
  • when the mother says "Baby" , " i missed you" both these times set me off on such a cry fest

So when my cousin came out as gay his parents kicked him out. Then, his mother had a near death experience and an emergency open heart surgery. After she woke up she realized that if she had died on that operating table her own son would not come to her funeral. She also realized that if her son were to die before her she wouldn't be invited to his. These two realisations caused my aunt, a proud, republican, christian lady to accept and reconnect with her son. She also accepted all his friends, some of whom were middle eastern, gay, and Muslim. She also accepted all her son's boyfriends and his husband with open arms. I wish more parents thought about situations like this when disowning their LBGTQIA+ children. About how they'd feel if their child died with the last memory of their parents being one of rejection and pain. Or about how they'd feel if their own child wouldn't show up for their funeral. Maybe they'd realize that their kids are more important than their homophobia, biphobia, or transphobia. Maybe.

As I’ve said before, Anjelica Ross requested NO rehearsals. She wanted all of the dialog to be organic and real. Everything you’re seeing was first-run.

When her dad said he bought her the doll house... because he wanted the best for his baby... I missed my mom at that moment. That’s why this show is so real, it touches you.

Reminder to not wait to bring flowers til somebody is gone. Theres parents who didn’t even come to watch their child be buried, but the ones like Candy’s who did after years of silence don’t and won’t get a chance to talk to their child coffinside like in the show. Please, love your child unconditionally, and let then know that before it’s too late. Protect our transgender women
  • When you realise when the mum says, “I’ve missed you.” Not only is that her saying she missed having her child, but she’s missed her chance to be properly in her life as her parent. God this episode broke me. 😭😭
  • The scene with Candy and her Father, gets me every time!!! “I wanted my baby to have what he.......I guess, what she wanted”. It’s so rare to see how much Black father’s truly love their children on film. The tenderness in their eyes and the love in their heart as they look at their children is so real. Black parents love the hell out their children, but that love comes with so much fear and that’s why this scene is so powerful. #SeenAsWeAre

The moment her mom says “I’ve missed you” I just lose control😢😔
  • I need ms Angelica Ross to make an appearance every time another character dies. She can be the Angel leading them to their final Ball😭😭
