My sweet Mama God rest her sweet soul was a waitress in Columbus Mississippi. Elvis came to town to play and came into the restaurant with his manager after the end of his set. My mama found him a room at the adjacent motel that he could go hide out in because the girls at the concert had just ripped at his clothes to point he barely kept his pants on. Mama was acquainted with his Aunt and Uncle, so she didn't sell him out when girls came looking for him. She thought the poor guy needed some rest away from the crowd. She always loved his singing and owned just about every movie he ever made. That man Loved his mama.

It brings tears to my eyes that the industry sucked the life out of Elvis. EVERYONE wanted a piece of him till he had nothing left to give. It still breaks my heart.

My Mom was born in 1950 and has been a fan since a very young age.She started a scrap book about Elvis when she was around the age of ten and up until his death when she was twenty seven that year. She passed it on to me about five years ago along with many Elvis records she had collected through the years. I have loved Elvis myself since a very young age and am turning fifty four this year. Many fond memories of my Mom and Dad listening to Elvis all my life. Long Live The King!!

Elvis was very handsome when he was young.
  • Close to the end of my Mama's journey with Alzheimer's she was in a nursing home in her hometown. An Elvis impersonator ( not a very good one) and he gave Mama a red scarf. She treasured that scarf and never forgot she finally saw Elvis. RIP Mama
  • Elvis Presley the boy who dared to Rock. 🎸 A man is never truly dead until he is forgotten. Long live the King. 👑

Elvis was a beautiful man, in looks and in spirit. There will never be another one like him.
  • My dad played the hayride in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. Dad performed same night as Elvis once and said he'd never perform again following him lol

45 years ago today (8/16/77) I was a 2 year old. That was the day this world lost the greatest performer and rock n roll legend ever produced, the incomparable Elvis Aaron Presley. A beautiful man with a beautiful voice, graced with humility, charm, charisma and coolness. The world has never been the same since that fateful day. May the Lord allow his soul to Rest In Peace in heaven. We will never forget you, Elvis. ❤️

God put Elvis right where he needed to be, when he needed to be there. Thank you Jesus!

A lot of people here in Shreveport had involvement with early Elvis. Recently, a swimming pool he donated to a boy scout camp out in the country (at the time) was demolished to make way for a Kroger parking lot. Slowly, his friends here are dying off, and places he frequented are disappearing. A woman from here who was also on the Louisiana Hayride owns Sun Records now. She and her husband bought it long ago. This video is full of great pictures that I have never seen before!
