Take an inside look at how some areas are attracting new residents as more companies embrace working remotely.

  • Maybe if West Virginia invested in those that are still here and stop running the state like it was 60 years ago maybe people would stay here.

They have to improve the infrastructure for this to work … internet service is terrible and inconsistent. Dirt roads everywhere still. I own a house in WV, but don’t live there due to the lack of opportunities for my family.
  • Wait so… what are they doing about the poor people already there???
  • @km-brn
A shame that they are paying people to move to WV as opposed to putting that money back into a heightened quality of life for the state’s existing residents.

I accidentally drove into West Virginia once...my cousin freaked all the way out 🤣🤣 she said "AW HELL NAW WE GOTTA GET THE HELL OUT OF THIS STATE"....As I got older I understand why now
  • @TheRichLA
All of a sudden, West Virginia is embracing culture? Poverty will make you say anything.
  • I am a Remote Worker ... and I am moving to West Virginia. Place is gorgeous and the people are just awesome.

I lived in Morgantown for a year… it’s such a beautiful state! I also drove past many confederate flags everyday and when I went up into Albright there was a FULL KKK hood & robe in the window of an abandoned store 🥴 not for people of color.

Don’t do it. I’ve lived here my entire life and this place’s beauty simply does NOT outweigh the amount of unincorporated, uneducated trash that plagues this poor state. There’s no market in a state with notorious poverty and ghost towns.

No amount of money could convince me to have joe machin as my senator.

Born and raised in charleston WV. I threw in the towel and moved to Raleigh North Carolina 3 years ago for better job opportunities, entertainment, more recreation, diversity, warmer climate, closer to beaches, business ventures etc. No regrets leaving, I've done much better in the Carolinas job & business wise. If WV can afford 12k incentives, it should aim to help the existing struggling residents and elderly populations first. Smh.
It's home, beautiful mountains, and I'll always visit as long as my parents are there... but they are wanting to soon leave one day too.

Still a very tough sell. They don’t even fix the bridges but close them resulting in some people not being able to go anywhere. Oops, my husband said that was Kentucky, not WV. It’s McConnell’s fault.

WV should focus on helping their existing communities first, which are suffering from water safety issues, addiction crises, and backwards politics.
  • Yikes that place looks like it's decaying and the wifi and cell phone reception would be extremely shoty! Not exactly what digital nomads are looking for.
  • @kusheran
WV? No, there is no amount of money.... I have to to stay in the modern era!

As someone with Melanin ill take my chances with the cities. Hear too many shady stories about the countryside.
  • 😳 they gone lost their damn mind... who in the hell moving to West Virginia...🤣🤣
  • 12k incentive to MOVE there, insulting to WV residents who earn 20k a year…..
  • @karenmassey8354
I don’t know about all that. Last time I went to West Virginia on vacation people stopped and stared when I walked down the street. I take it they don’t see many minorities there.
  • I grew up in a large, upper middle class family in the northern panhandle (Wheeling). It was genuinely a really good childhood and while Wheeling is by no means a big city, it’s not a tiny place either, it has a lot, good community, it’s beautiful, and it’s an hour from Pittsburgh and two from Columbus. Many of the neighborhoods are full of 100 year old Victorian homes and I lots of kids to play with and really amazing schools. My public high school genuinely was one of the best high schools with incredible opportunities and facilities.

And I say all this from my West Virginia University campus. Im living in Morgantown now. It’s a beautiful and great area as well. I love WVU, and I can’t begin to act like this state sucks.

But while there are these great things, I see the limited opportunities. I see that as a future teacher I will make very little. There is * a lot * of poverty here. I grew up in an area of WV with much less poverty than say, southern WV, but it’s still everywhere. There is a culture of racism and bigotry greater here than other areas of the country. It’s not a perfect place. Is it a shut hole like many people claim? No. It’s not. There’s a lot of nuance to WV. And I would like to see it improve.
