Yes, the sax line is legendary…BUT: can we give it up for that blistering guitar solo? Wow!

Let's take a moment for the people who can't find this song.
  • What a masterpiece ! My Dad passed away a month ago, and he and I would always talk about this song. Miss you Pops

So my personal memory of this song: It's a beautiful So Cal summer day in 1978. I'm 10. I'm in the car with my sisters driving along Topanga Canyon Blvd from the San Fernando Valley to Malibu Beach. The top is down, the weather is perfect. We're listening to KMET, the Mighty MET. Baker Street comes on just as we're cresting the hills. The Pacific comes into view in perfect time with the sax. Probably the last, maybe the only, time I had absolutely no worries, no concerns, just being. That's my memory of this song.
  • I can't understand how anyone could give this song a dislike--especially with the sax performance!! This was popular when I was 14, and I still love it at almost 57. City to City is an incredible album!!
  • This is one of the GREATEST songs of ALL TIME!!! ABSOLUTE CLASSIC!!!

I was in the Army stationed at Ft. Devens, Ma in 1978 when I first heard this song. I had the eight track tape and I'd play it in my car. I would cry when I heard the lyric, "one more year and then you'll be happy, cause your going, your going home". I had one more year left in the Army and I was going home...:face-blue-smiling:

I'm 66 and loved this song when it came out, I think i was about 22. It has a calming relaxing feeling to it. He left us way too early !

Learned this in AA. "I tried to drown my sorrows, but the little fuckers learned how to swim." RIP, Mr. Rafferty. Your song holds a SPECIAL place in my heart.

R.I.P. Gerry Rafferty (1947-2011), a very talented man who was uncomfortable with success, and disenchanted with the music industry. He died of liver failure after prolonged alcoholism. He was 63.

One of the greatest songs of all time IMHO. The sax solo, lyrics, musical arrangement and Gerry's delivery are the highlights for me.

Having walked Baker street numerous times, this is easily one of my all time favorite songs. The Sax intro might be the best intro of all time.

That sax gives me chills every time. Awesome!
  • The guitar solo that comes in just after the great sax part always put me in the mind of seagulls flying around above the ocean on a beautiful summer afternoon. Gorgeous.
  • Are you kidding me?... This is without a doubt.. one of the very best of all songs of that.. era?.. yes we absolutely love and appreciate what a great piece of art for the ears and heart this composition really is!!! Bravo! 💪✌️❤️‍🩹🎶🤠
