In the making: The 'Spirit of the Islands' Plane

Published 2013-06-04
Creating our 'Spirit of the Islands' aircraft, designed by Honolulu high school student Aaron Nee, was quite the undertaking. A crew of 18 worked around the clock for 24 days using 26 colors, 140 gallons of paint and 28,800 yards of masking tape!

Aaron's design was selected among 2,700 submissions by students across the Hawaiian Islands in a statewide "Paint-the-Plane" contest. The 129 ft-long masterpiece will fly throughout our network, connecting destinations from Hawaii to San Diego and from Anchorage as far south as Mexico, sharing the Aloha spirit!
