Thinking: "The worst thing that can happen is that she says no." Reality:

"You who killed your mother to come into the world." The evil in that sentence can't be overstated.

Tyrion made me realize, no matter how hard you work or how effective your solutions to problems are, it all boils down to if your boss likes you.

Straight from the book. Charles and Peter absolutely killed this scene
  • @StevemanChair
“You are an ill made spiteful little creature, full of envy, lust and low cunning” That’s pretty much Cersei though

This was Tywin’s only weakness, his hatred for his son. It ended up killing him.

3:37 - 4:35 has got to be one of the most brutal and cruel sets of lines ever spoken on screen; you barely have time to breathe or process before he delivers the next insult. There's not even a hint of comedic relief to find here, just pure and uninterrupted verbal annihilation, and so beautifully delivered by Charles Dance.

2:52 Love the way Tywin swallows his rage, offers Tyrion a diplomatic compromise, then lashes out at him. Says so much about their relationship. Even the way the shots are framed in this scene makes it seem like both characters are staring into a warped mirror, each seeing in the other parts of themselves which they despise.

This conversation alone is greater than the entire season 8 script.

"Hey dad can I have the massive castle?" - "No"
  • Fun fact: Charles Dance was so appalled by Tywin's treatment towards Tyrion that he kept apologizing to Peter Dinklage, between takes, for all the horrible things he told him while acting.

Even as grown adults, the fear they all have for their father is so relatable and so apparent.

If you want a great cold 'villian', cast an old English theatre veteran

I love the way Tyrion is so hurt he doesn’t even wait for Tywin to finish before he turns and finishes walking away. Such a moving scene, damn near moves me to tears.
  • Its sad tyrion had basically everything tywin wanted for his kids. Hes smart, brave, cunning the only thing he was lacking, was size
  • I love how Tyrion turns away from his father during his last remark. Such a subtle human moment.

If I were Tyrion I’d have cried my eyes out man. Tywin’s words were VISCIOUS.
  • "And I would let myself be consumed by maggots before mocking the family name by making you heir to Casterly Rock." This scene actually makes me cry lol. Tyrion really wanted his father to love him and be proud of him and treat him with respect. That's what he's really asking for in this scene, he literally proved himself in battle, as a family Tyrion and Tywin won the Battle of Blackwater together. Yet Tywin is as hateful and condescending as ever. Had Tywin been able to love and respect Tyrion their house name would have lived on like he so desperately wanted. (btw I love Tywin as a character and Charles Dance is amazing, just his character is an awful father/person)
  • “Men’s laws give you the right to bear my name and display my colours since I cannot prove you are not mine.” Brutal
