Thanks for mentioning me It's called a open deck design and it's a saw tooth cut in between cylinders and cylinders walk and allow coolant to leak into the cylinder 1.5L 1.6L and 2.0L ecoboost of certain generations all have the intrusion problem 1.6L and 2.0L Get complete long blocks and the 1.5L Ecoboost gets a shortblock rebuild

I'm in Australia and just got my 2019 Ford Escape 1 5 Ecoboost 4 turbo with 120k in it last Dec 2022. So far so good! Going like a champ! Sure it could use a little more power on steep hills but Im not fussed! Done its 135k service with no major issues picked up! Guess Im one of the lucky ones so far based on your review. Only time will tell! 150k with timing belt replacement on the way I better pray for it to continue to go as the little champ it is currently! šŸ¤ž Loved your review by the way! ā¤
  • Almost 160,000 miles on my 1.5 still going good. Inside of the motor is clean as a whistle. Oil changed every 3,000 miles.
  • Yup. I have replaced hundreds of 1.5 short blocks now. Ford has also released customer satisfaction program 21N12 basically extending the warranty on this particular repair requirement for those who have surpassed all their factory. Given how expensive this repair is, you can bet that this issue happens more often than not, with these engines.

Thank you for your video! Unfortunately, the 2.0 Ecoboost suffers from the same problems as the 1.5L. The 2.0 was only produced in significantly smaller numbers, so the problem is less noticeable, but it equally exists.
  • Thanks for the tip i was planning 2.5 dohc ford s model .... With u giving greenlight i will now pursue for that car ..

My company bought a 2023 Escape with the 1.5L ecoboost 888 miles. It went into limp mode threw P1299 and the dealership said it needs a new cylinder head and that the metal shavings caused a blockage and overheated the engine. šŸ˜¢ itā€™s sad because it is a pleasant car to drive.

Bought my 2018 escape used with 40k miles. At 63k miles i had white smoke comming out of the exhaust and rough idle. Took it to my mechanic and he said it was sparkplugs and he replaced all the plugs. Problem was fixed for a couple days and started up again. He replaced #2 plug and it was ok until i got a powertrain failure alarmLuckily i was able to get it to the dealership and they had to replace the engine block. After 4k miles after the fix, they had to realign the injectors since they werent in right and i was smelling gas fumes in the car. Seems to be working ok now
  • My 19 Escape with a 2.0 jut hit 100,000 miles with absolutely nothing on the car broken. I'm happy but have my fingers crossed

Very informative video thanks for sharing...šŸ‘
  • Original Quad4 was a badass engine , but was expensive so they came out with another, and another etc.
  • Hey I take offense to you calling the our Chrysler 2.7L engine bad. It held its ground...lol..JK, great video, great channel, liked and subbed.

You were saying Ecoboost 1.6L, which i have on my kuga has less issues than the 1.5 correct. Wondering cause I'm french I don't understand everything. Interesting video. Thanks a lot!

Had the 1.5 in a 2018 escape. At 95,000 miles it developed a coolant intrusion problem. Replaced the head gasket and it was fine. Probably still running. Itā€™s a shame that literally one poor engineering choice could have such an impact. Most fail because of block design with the grooved deck not providing enough head gasket support. After designing and building engines for over a hundred years making a head gasket seal long term shouldnā€™t be an issue for Ford .I had no block cracking and I suspect most donā€™t. Everything else on the vehicle and engine was trouble free. While 95,000 miles isnā€™t great service life, if youā€™re handy with tools, I imagine you could pick up some pretty good bargains on a Ford vehicle with this problem for the price of a head gasket.

I gotta civic DX with the 1.5 l 4 cylinder spent 4700 rebuilding the motor and not even a week of getting it back the motor blew apparently because of no oil in the filter but got a oil change not even 3 days before

the 2.5 four cylinder engine that's in so many transit connects is a solid motor. I don't hear many people talk about its merits but it has been very reliable for me.
