  • I wasn't expecting you to make this video. I guess you got my suggestion via email I submitted earlier this year when you announced Traumathon 4. And I'm very glad that you did, because this is a element that often gets neglected when it comes to the Sam Raimi Spiderman trilogy. And its often the parts that traumatizes me as a child, and still disturbs me to this day. So thank you for this video, and I wonder how many people got scared or traumatized by these movies. Because for awhile, I felt alone with this experience.

I think I remember hearing that Spider-Man was designed to have a sort of uncanny, subtle horror to him, like how he crawls on walls with such a a strange, contorted pose. Would've been great to have those deleted scenes from 3, but unfortunately, sometimes good things are taken from us.
  • I will say the nightmare that stuck with me was of me playing a Spider-Man game on a console made by V-tech. In the dream, i touched the joystick and then the tv flashed and spider man came on saying “OOOoooo, you touched the spider man!” he then started convulsing and the TV started flashing colors, like seizure inducing
  • I was always terrified of Doc Ock's Awakening scene as a kid. The part that scared me the most was when one of the surgeons gets dragged by his arms.
  • The most scariest part in the Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy will always be the Bully Maguire scene: "I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye."

Sam Raimi's horror to me has never been that scary without truly sitting down to think about the implications of what he portrays, from a face value, it just looks pretty silly but when you think about it, its a lot darker. You honestly explained what implications the imagery Raimi portrays perfectly, for example the scene with the skeletons in Spider-Man 1. Absolutely love both Raimi's humor and horror, and he blends those well together.
  • If Raimi had been given free reign on Spider-Man 3, we would have probably gotten one of the most horror heavy Spider-Man movie what with the Symbiote/Venom plot. There could’ve been some wildly icky and cool stuff, even beyond what what cut likely.
  • @kraikein
Funny you mention finding the symbiote boring, because Raimi himself wasn't a big fan of Venom, but Sony and Ami Aryad sort of guilt tripped him into putting him in the film. Originally the movie was supposed to have Sandman, the New Goblin and the Vulture. They even had gotten to the making a physical prop of prototype wings. I do wish they kept the symbiote/Venom's idea of degloving Eddie and messing with his DNA/Skeleton, especially since Venom as a character in the comics seems to be based around space horror

One of my favorite details about the Spider-Man 2 hospital scene, and one that I don't see many people talk about even if they've even conscientiously noticed it is that if you go back and watch it, not a single drop of blood is spilled throughout the entire sequence, and it's still as amazing as it is. Raimi is just brilliant.
  • One scene I'm surprised you didn't bring up was the balcony scene from the second. The scene where harry is standing on his balcony when he hears a thud at the bottom of the building. The sound then gets louder and louder as it gets closer to him, only to stop. Harry looks over the balcony, only to get grabbed by doc ock. The buildup was something straight out of a horror movie. I love it Peel

I worked with Dafoe on the Florida Project. He's an awesome guy, although he actually can be kinda creepy in person and I'm not sure if it's on purpose or not.
  • @CalyBun
Speaking of deleted scenes, does anyone remember that one Scooby Doo deleted scene where Velma was a monster and Daphne came into the locker room and Velma screams in her face with other monster-possesed girls? The lack of music and the way Velma twists her head scared the shit outta me
  • I think the way the goblin made the scream was the same way he was making the spunds of the crying woman, being that he was using an audio clip to mess with spiderman, same with the robe, he wanted spidey to get close without knowing its him and getting the drop on him
  • @bradens.3125
i can always count on the new intro to have the dancing alien in the backrooms
  • @raelogan
The scariest part of this video was "Get those jars ready."
  • "So get those jars ready!" oh my god Also, completely agree. Raimi handled the Spiderman trilogy how a comic book movie should be handled. Balanced humor and horror, not trying to justify anything but delighting in both, the way comic books often do, as opposed to constantly sending nods and winks to the camera like "Yeah, we know this is stupid haha but we're the quirky ones," and therefore ruining the dark and serious moments - or alternatively, getting so into its dark side that any attempt at humor just sounds painful, like a comedian with a shattered femur.
  • @catubz
I think Goblin managed to scream like that using a speaker within the mask, idk he probably just is some supernatural freak
  • Never understood why the early 2000s Spidey gets such flack. You hit the nail on the head the cast was superb! The director and crew were amazing. It had so much personality to it and you absolutely tell the crew was having alot of fun with it. Willem Dafoe was just chefs kiss
  • @atomnum9
My favorite deleted scene is definitely the scene where it's revealed Eddie's been dead this entire time with the skeleton of him being all thats left of him. It conveys the same idea thats in the movie but in a much more way I think.

I just wanted to say that I've been loving traumathon 4 so far. I've been an avid watcher since I discovered the channel through the first traumathon series and always look forward to this series to set the tone for October. Thank you for all of the hard work you put into making each video!
