Telegram may not be the best app in terms of ultra privacy, but it's the best in terms of its great, unique features, ux/ui and speed. Programmers have made an amazing job with this app.
-
Telegram has been a vital facility for me and I use the desktop application more than email. I marvel at how such a small team of developers have built this brilliant code on so many platforms. BTW: When I need private communications I have "secure chats" already established for mobile to mobile use with a time-to-live setting.
-
here in Ukraine and Russia pretty much anyone uses Telegram. It just is so much better in terms of content, in terms of speed and usability. Whatever feature you want in a messenger, there is one.
-
I signed up Telegram when it first became available but I couldn't get any of my friends and families to join me. All of them are still using FB and Whatsapp. Very frustrating.
-
I've been using telegram since 2017 and not for the privacy features. I like the multitude of features present on telegram like the ability to send uncompressed images at no extra cost, be able to completely delete a message sent to another person, and how fast telegram is (I think it's even faster than SMS). But the real feature that I've been enjoying is the ability to send large files directly without it having to go through some other service (thanks Gmail). When I need to perform large file transfers, I would just ask the receiving person if they have a telegram account and send it there.
-
You didn't mention telegrams main features - channels, that makes is Facebook's rival, and not private messaging
-
Telegram stood up to Western Giants and won we fully support Telegram

Been using Telegram for years and love it. Lots of useful features like polls. Its quick and reliable and syncs beautifully over several devices. I think the latter is the reason why end to end encryption is not enabled by default.
-
literally Telegram save us students alot , more than we thought. We don't need to use zoom call , which end every 40 mins. Share screen works really well, it's also good with storage, and most school use telegram. I don't remember the last time I had to make calls on Messager or Zoom.
-
Can u do an episode about signal? It would be interesting.
-
You know you're living in interesting times when ColdFusion starts talking about current events. 👍
-
I love how in the comments, people mention Instagram and WhatsApp as Alternatives to Facebook....but Facebook bought those two so....it's all Facebook in a way, right?
-
This "downside" about the encryption is taken out of context. Group chats still have encryption, but it's going over their servers, E2E is only for single communications, and that option is clearly visible in the app. The complaint about a "Russian overseer" is also missing context, since the founder left Russia after they tried forcing him to hand over encryption keys. If anything, this should make trust in their safety higher, not lower. Are there potential issues with privacy? Yes, if people randomly use functions like public location sharing without any idea how it works, and without reading the warnings. None of the "concerns" have an actual base except for users who don't read what they click.
-
No ads, runs fast, can be integrated in your own platform since the client is opensource, you can build your own client, provide bug fixes and bug reports. Video and audio is really fast, unlike Skype or messenger/whatsup where chat lags a lot sometimes.
-
This video is nothing but a hit job on Telegram with almost nil information and reliance on the testimony of a single person who is planning to leave Telegram.

After i switched to Telegram (from WhatsApp) two years ago I've never looked back 👍
-
Regardless of Telegram's privacy issues, its the best and smoothest messaging apps out there, and in my opinion if Telegram tunred into a social media app it will take over facebook gradually
-
Gotta stick with end-to-end encrypted systems like Signal if concerned about message privacy. I do like that Telegram is ad-free and not a commercialized tool.

here in Korea, Kakao Talk was THE thing. everybody was using it until.. a couple of years ago, the Korean government requested someone's Kakao Talk chat to use it on a court case, which Kakao Talk applied. HUGE migration to Telegram ensued. We still use Kakao Talk a lot for light chat , but not for business or when security is important.
