Documentary looking behind the scenes of the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, India's oldest and most famous hotel, where the super rich are waited on in luxurious surroundings. When it opened in 1903, the Taj Mahal Palace was the first hotel in India and the first to have air conditioning, electricity and a licensed bar. This obsession with the new continues with the hotel's deputy General Manager Parveen hosting Christie''s first ever auction of Indian art in India - the hope is that Mumbai''s super-rich will break a world sales record.

We also meet, concierge Satish, the man who can get you anything, as he plays Man Friday to regular guests Peter and Suzie who have shipped their vintage car from Essex to tour around the Indian subcontinent. Anoushka (sitar player and daughter of Ravi) returns to the hotel where her father first taught George Harrison to play.

The owner of this Hotel donates 60% of their income to the poor & has given millions of jobs to us & many thousands of jobs to even Americans & Europeans, Actually they are currently operating in more than 115 countries 🙏
  • Before the terrorist attacks, the staff never had a drill/ training to handle such situation . Yet no staff deserted the scene and hurried out to save their own life. They knew the secret/ additional doors and other ways to save their own life but stayed at the scene to help the guest . This comes from deep respect and love for your work and institution which Tata group inculcates in mind and character. PS- The then GM Karambir Singh got to know that his wife and two teenage sons got shot too on the GMs residence on upper floors. Yet he stayed until the hotel was declared safe .

It's not a hotel. It's an institution and a place to learn. A stay at the Taj is an education in hospitality, interpersonal dynamics, strategy, attention to detail, execution, humility and how to manage teams by inspiring, rather than driving them. I wish taj another 100 years of leadership.

I was an Emirates crew and stayed in Taj. The food was so amazing, best lamb I ever had and the service was amazing!

My first job almost 50 years ago. It was a fabulous place to work in those days. The loyalty to the institution was remarkable, every employee felt personally felt invested in the hotel. There was no unionisation of the staff we were that well looked after. And when the terrorist attack on the hotel took place in 2008 it was not just an emotional shock to watch the horrors unfolding right before our eyes on television but later when we and the world got to know about the heroic action and steadfast loyalty of all the employees in looking after the safety of their guests, a different kind of emotion filled me and everyone ever associated with the Taj, one of overwhelming pride and gratitude to know that the spirit of the Taj had not and has not diminished.

My experiences in Indian Hotels in general is that the standards of service exceed those found anywhere else in the World. The Taj is the epitome of the epitome.

Look at the Humble Man Satish! The guy is dedicated to the Hotel like anything and yet so humble. Passing on his Culture to the next generation. Inspiring.

India has 3 different parallel worlds. 1 - Rich 2 - Affluent people in IT/Software industry whose income is much more than most developed nations, if purchasing power of INR is considered. 3 - Poor and Middle class. So yeah, we have Luxury, Normal Average Life, and the poverty(which the developed nations crave to make themselves better).

Didn't realize how majestic this place is until they show the layers of the grand staircase. What a magnificent place! And the Indian hospitality is also out of this world here.
  • The general manager seems to have an inspiring approach to leadership of his staff. He commands respect and exactitude not by pushing and dominance, but by his quiet confidence in their capabilities, and his clear communication for his vision for the hotel.

Such a lovely story of the married couple and their classic car. What emotional story. That’s what love is. Making a grown man cry 😢

I have been to Taj Bekal and Taj in Goa. I am just an ordinary human who was delighted to be at Taj. I understand that Taj people host super rich and known personalities and give them the right treatment they r so used too. But the Taj people should also be proud of how they treat the commoners . For the rich and famous , it might be a regular thing , to stay at such properties. But the commoners dream and plan their stays at such places and that could happen only once in a life time. As a commoner I have absolutely loved the treatment given to me by Taj people. Their attitude and behaviour towards you never overwhelms or make you feel lowly ever. They still make your time spend at their properties memorable in every sense. Thankyou Taj , for being so what you r !

I made reservations at the Taj for some former execs that I once worked for. It's fun to see the inner workings of this hotel. I didn't realize it had such a storied history. We just knew it was one of the best hotels to stay at in Mumbai. So very interesting!

A hotel of this calibre would be nothing without a staff who are on a par. Really excellent staff, and wonderful ambassadors of the hotel.
  • Recently went to Taj . What an astonishing architecture..! The staff are so polite in manner. Each and every single decor is amazing. Hatsoff to Tata Group for holding this great grandeur..! ❤❤❤
  • My goodness. To see Satish in the Taj is one thing...but to see him in his home, surrounded by his family, is a whole 'nother level. The harmony & beauty of the Taj is one thing...but the harmony & beauty of Satish's home is a whole 'nother level. He is superb at his job, but the real labour of love for him is so clearly his family & home...& the way he speaks about them is very moving.
