Hondo Underwood is a former car thief, and now shares information with the public about how to avoid falling victim to theft.

Underwood speaks with Business Insider about methods of breaking into vehicles, such as relay theft. He offers insights into how chop shops operate and how organized crime groups conspire to transport stolen vehicles across the border to Mexico. He also notes the models of cars he stole, including Chevrolets and Ford pickup trucks, and discusses the realism of car theft in movies and games like "Gone in 60 Seconds" and "Grand Theft Auto."

He stole hundreds of cars in and around Denver between 2016 and 2017.

A Marine Corps veteran, he was ordered to complete a rehabilitation program by a Colorado Veterans Treatment Court. He now works in the construction industry.

I grew up playing GTA my whole life and I never even thought about stealing a car 😂
  • @SibrenFetter
This guys blames everything else except himself. The drugs did not make you a criminal, nor did some videogame. You made those choices and they were wrong. In between he constantly admits that it was actually really fun to do, he loved the rush.
  • @KookusMaximus
Former military..... blames video games halfway through..... ironic given the DoD's game development spending.
  • @evangaudet
Okay but where’s justice? This guy stole over 200 vehicles, he has two eardrop tattoos insinuating he killed somebody, he says he carries shotguns and full autos with him during his jobs. Why is this man free?
  • @RDJ134
Failed rapper, failed drug dealer, junkie and car thief and everything is not his fault but GTA needs to be forbidden. Also lots of his stories sounds like pure bullshit six hot persuits in a day, sure......
  • @TherealDsizzle
This video can be used to educate the public on narcissism. Zero accountability dead give away.
  • @7900Star
Stole Escalades but didn't mess with vehicles equipped w/ on star. Got it! 😂
  • @2K8Si
Oh yeah? Well, I grew up watching road runner and coyote cartoons, and never once thought of dropping an anvil on anyones head. 😆
  • It's true, car theft increases everyone's insurance. So even though the victim might get an insurance payout, thieves are stealing from everyone at the same time.
  • I have never heard anyone that has been in the Marines refer to themselves as "former Marine".
  • @B355Y
I dont agree with most of what this guy says 🤷‍♂️

Please stop using that awful, repetitive projector slide sound. These videos are great, but hearing that sound over and over in headphones is terrible

All of the other experts are clearly extremely knowledgeable and experienced in their craft. This dude sounds like he has no idea what he’s on about.
  • @AndrewNiccol
Why get shot three times made him quit being a musician?
  • @Aviator27J
It's cool that he got special treatment as a vet but what if we could help anyone who wanted it? The reason it's called the corrections system is because the goal originally was to prevent recidivism. We don't do that now. We don't just send people to prison AS punishment, but also FOR punishment.

My Kia forte was stolen last summer…I had a gps on it but the LAPD didn’t care to answer their phones and once it finally was found it had basically no engine left including catalytic and manifold, no tires or bumpers, and was completely trashed and considered totaled. So frustrating and violating!! It’s ridiculous that there’s videos online “how to steal kias” and even worse how crappy the standards are for Kia/Hyundai theft/security systems!

This guy is a goof. I knew a professional thief that occasionally stole high-end cars, but made all of his money stealing construction equipment. He made more from one score than this guy made in his whole career. He never carried a gun, never had a confrontation with police.
