The Story

After realizing the emotional and mental impacts of the pandemic, local Washington DC music phenom Emma G embarked on a personal write-a-song-a-day challenge in Feb 2021, of which she documents her motivation and connection to music to include:

- the importance of, and relationship between our physical, spiritual, mental, emotional and creative health
- the power of music when it comes to turning our struggles into superpowers
- the importance of building strong foundations for resilience and creative expression - especially in today's global pandemic.

Why this film is important

The film is called Born in Crisis, a special reference to Emma G’s medical trauma [a relatively rare condition called hydrocephalus], and having had 10 brain surgeries - 24 surgeries in total. This film will follow her as she wraps up her "write a song a day" challenge and enters into a marathon recording session in an attempt to record an entire album in just 2 days!

The songs Emma G wrote during this one month challenge are about brain surgery and scars, finding her identity, anti-racism, self love and all that good stuff. The film with document the recording of the album she, and how important it is to teach these skills of resilience to teenagers through her ongoing coaching and mentoring.
