The really fun part of this is that the government demands the old, romantic, nostalgic and scenic roads to be upheld so people can choose if they want to go fast, or enjoy the scenery and culture along the coast.

"an architect dream, is an engineers nightmare"

Being in my early 60's, this is the kind of thing that makes me want to live a really long life, just to see these kinds of innovations and projects be completed.
-
Personally I would feel anxious driving long distances in underwater tubes.
-
Me: Has a shit ton of homework Also me: Investigating Norwegian infrastructure
-
This sounds like one of those Minecraft projects you would never finish

Many years ago, I rented a car and drove it from Oslo to Trondheim, I wanted to see what Norway was like after skiing at Oslo, and I did! I'd love to drive their new super Coastal Highway but probably never will. What a beautiful country Norway is, and the people are just as beautiful as their country! Back then, as I stopped at a little store or some interesting spot along the way, the older people didn't speak English so they'd call their children to talk to me, because they did! I enjoyed every minute of that trip, about 50 years ago!

Some update on the Rogfast project: Tunnel (3.5km) down from Kvitsøy is complete. Around 2800m of both main tubes had been blasted just before Christmas 2023. The road project is expected to open in 2033. Tunnel will be 26.7km (16.59 miles) long and go down to 390m (~1280ft) below sea level.

Imagine missing your exit in that tunnel

The ultimate "hold my beer" project.

The great thing about this project is that you don’t need to complete all the stages for it to greatly improve the E39. There will continue to be a ferry across Sognefjorden for a long time, but that doesn’t mean that most of the other crossings can’t get a fixed link. That said, it will be decades until the link from Stavanger to Bergen is finished, and that has the highest priority.

This is an extremely impressive and unique project. Norway is impressive, period. Norwegians are great, I speak from experience.
-
People watched: 16 million. Norways Population: 5,3 million.
-
Norway has so much money it's literally playing Cities Skylines in real life.
-
Still costs less then a nuclear power plant in Finland. They're on their 19th year building it!
-
Geez that sure is a HUGE project for a country with such a small and sparsely populated population. Like where I live there's a billion people in 1 square meter and we can't even get gravel roads. Norway really is beyond and above what it means to live in a developed country! These are some next level services!
-
This is amazing, in Michigan they can't even fix potholes.
-
When you're Norwegian yourself but never heard of this before
-
“An engineers design, is a construction workers worst nightmare” Especially when it comes to this underwater highway

Norway receives millions in oil revenue: invests in infrastructure and worlds largest fund. Britain receives millions in oil revenue: potholes in the road and smart highway that doesn’t work
