A massive technology outage disrupted businesses and institutions in multiple countries. The glitch threw airports, banks, stock exchanges, supermarkets, telecoms, health systems and media outlets into chaos. The outage showed the fragile dependence the global economy has on certain software and the cascading effect it can have when things go wrong.
The outage was reported after Microsoft said it was addressing an issue affecting access to Microsoft 365 apps and services. The outages rippled far and wide, with transport systems around the world among the hardest hit.
A software update issued by CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm, appeared to be at the root of the problem. The glitch resulted in crashes of machines running the Microsoft Windows operating system.
CrowdStrike said that it was aware of reports of Microsoft’s Windows operating system crashing. CrowdStrike president George Kurtz said the problem was caused by a “defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts.”

Well, this explains what happened at the supermarket yesterday the cash registers we're only taking credit cards and cash. There were long lines at all registers and it was a pain getting customers through trying to find alternate sources of payment. We need a redundant system. The system is not robust enough, and everybody is using the same guy that's not good
