NOTE: TN is a DP state, but DP is not being sought in this case.

Tennessee man Joel Michael Guy Jr., 32, stands trial in the horrific 2016 murders of his parents Joel Michael Guy, Sr., 61, and Lisa Guy, 55. The trial is scheduled to run Monday, September 28 to Friday, October 2, according to records. The Law&Crime Network will be live each day with coverage running from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET.

The defendant’s three sisters reportedly told authorities everything seemed okay when the family sat together for Thanksgiving in 2016. But just days after that final get-together, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said Joel Guy Jr. murdered his parents in especially horrifying fashion. Both victims were stabbed and dismembered, their remains placed in different rooms of the house, deputies said.

Authorities suggested the murders happened sometime between Friday, November 25, or the middle of Saturday, November 26. Guy Jr. allegedly put his parents’ remains in “an acid based solution” to destroy evidence.

Investigators said that the defendant, who had been in living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after reportedly withdrawing from Louisiana State University, returned home on the 27th after killing his parents. His parents were last seen alive on Friday the 25th.

Authorities say that Guy Jr. killed his parents after they told him they would no longer pay his bills.

Someone wants the possibility of the death penalty for this case. It’s not the prosecution. The defendant recently asked that he be allowed to represent himself in motions that request the judge and jury be allowed to consider capital punishment in the event of a conviction.

To be clear, the state is not pursuing the death penalty for him. The reason why is currently unclear.

“Ethical rules prohibit the District Attorney’s Office from commenting on pending cases,” said Sean McDermott, a spokesman for Knox County District Attorney General Charme Allen, said in an email to Knox News.

  • This is my family, Mike (Joel Sr.) & Lisa Guy, they were truly amazing people, my Uncle and Aunt. My dad and Mike were brothers, unfortunately my dad passed away in February 2001 from a terminal illness. This has really taken a toll on my family, so tragic and shocking. Joel Michael Jr doesn't deserve his father's name, he deserves to be in prison for the rest of his life!!!
  • To think the items he purchased to kill his parents were payed for with their money since he didn’t work a day in his life... this is so horribly sad

I love how this Judge explains things to everyone to make sure everyone in the the courtroom understands what’s going on.

Thanks for all the kind words about Detective Campbell, shes my wife and I love hearing nice words about her :).
  • @ashbash635
So his mom spends her last hours in Walmart buying food to feed her only son that she supported all his life. She lugged all those bags home on her own and actually had to face at some point the horrifying realisation that her boy was stabbing here to death. I’ve been watching true crime and criminal trials for a long time and this one is a truly horrific crime. The way he treated their bodies all so he didn’t have to get a job?! And now the state will have to use tax dollars to feed and house him until the day his utterly pathetic life ends.

I would need serious help having to sit and look at him. I wonder how his lawyers could even be near him!? He is the creepiest human I've ever seen.
  • @Gottoberealz
This man totally looks like he's enjoying this. He acts like he's at a city counsel meeting , not his own murder trial
  • @Turandot29
You know why Joel Guy, Jr. is wearing that clear visor instead of a face mask like everyone else? It is so the jury can see the expressions on his face as the testimony is presented.
  • I could give an award to Officer Campbell for being the most efficient organized witness /expert I have seen in many many trials.
  • @LivsTanks
He’s literally holding in smiles this entire trial.
  • This is just allowing him to relive and glorify these disgusting murders.... while at the same time traumatizing everyone else 🤮

Those poor siblings clearly loved both their step mother and their father too. He murdered both then sits in front of his siblings with a Holier Than Thou smirk on his piggish little face. Whomever suggested the clear visor over a mask didn’t like him much because it has revealed a LOT about him and how superior he feels to everyone in that room. Makes me want to wipe the smirk right off his piggish little face. I can’t begin to imagine how his siblings feel!
  • @Flamerider68
What could he possibly be writting about? Is he taking note of his mistakes, playing hangman.. what? Disturbing for sure.
  • @legoperson902
Cross examination: I’m going to ask you the brand of the sink because I have nothing else to say.
  • @shuddle82
What a creepy guy. Why do all murder defendants take so many notes. He actually has a pen. They only let Stabby Arias have one of those stumpy half pencils.
  • Oh good Lord.... when they pulled the stock pot out I felt sick to my stomach. I cannot even fathom having to hold that thing, let alone what it actually looked like to have a human head inside. Absolutely incomprehensible...
  • @susansehorn2412
This was such a horrific scene to walk in on, collect evidence, and document evidence I've ever seen. And I've been watching trials since 1992.

I posted this before but I don't see it. Officer Campbell is a credit to Knox County and her profession. She was clear, pleasant and organized in every way. I can't imagine dealing with such a grisly topic but she didn't seem phased or hardened, either one. Just the facts, presented in the clearest way possible.
