Joel Guy Jr. Trial Day 2 - Forensic Investigators Go Over Crime Scene Evidence

Published 2020-09-29
NOTE: TN is a DP state, but DP is not being sought in this case.

Tennessee man Joel Michael Guy Jr., 32, stands trial in the horrific 2016 murders of his parents Joel Michael Guy, Sr., 61, and Lisa Guy, 55. The trial is scheduled to run Monday, September 28 to Friday, October 2, according to records. The Law&Crime Network will be live each day with coverage running from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET.

The defendant’s three sisters reportedly told authorities everything seemed okay when the family sat together for Thanksgiving in 2016. But just days after that final get-together, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said Joel Guy Jr. murdered his parents in especially horrifying fashion. Both victims were stabbed and dismembered, their remains placed in different rooms of the house, deputies said.

Authorities suggested the murders happened sometime between Friday, November 25, or the middle of Saturday, November 26. Guy Jr. allegedly put his parents’ remains in “an acid based solution” to destroy evidence.

Investigators said that the defendant, who had been in living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after reportedly withdrawing from Louisiana State University, returned home on the 27th after killing his parents. His parents were last seen alive on Friday the 25th.

Authorities say that Guy Jr. killed his parents after they told him they would no longer pay his bills.

Someone wants the possibility of the death penalty for this case. It’s not the prosecution. The defendant recently asked that he be allowed to represent himself in motions that request the judge and jury be allowed to consider capital punishment in the event of a conviction.

To be clear, the state is not pursuing the death penalty for him. The reason why is currently unclear.

“Ethical rules prohibit the District Attorney’s Office from commenting on pending cases,” said Sean McDermott, a spokesman for Knox County District Attorney General Charme Allen, said in an email to Knox News.

Ya know it never ceases to amaze me how witnesses remember specifics from 4 years ago! I have trouble with yesterday 🤷‍♀️

The bathroom is an odd place to find potato salad.

@1:48 ... the guy in far right hand corner trying to eat his grapes without anyone seeing it 😂

He never looks at his family or tries to connect with them. I just wonder what was going through his mind! Such a weird man. Makes me wonder if his mom coddling him so much contributed to his antisocial acts and gave him such a sense of entitlement. I love this judge!

He brought the blue tubs with him, so we know it was premeditated. Also he wasn't supposed to be there for Thanksgiving and showed up anyway.....had a crime to commit. 🗡⚒
  • How can he smile WTF. I wonder if he thinks his family sitting behind him are there to support him. What a creepy looking guy

With the Brutality of this crime...you’ve got to wonder if he’s killed before???
  • @greenvegansara
Did you see his face at the very beginning of this video? He seems to be smirking and he looks right at the camera, on purpose you can tell

Totally off subject, but I could listen to Mr. Park reading a book to me. He has a very comforting, slow southern drawl that is easy to listen to.
  • Maybe he is attention needy and never grew into maturity . Probably nothing wrong academically and is intelligent but doesn't like being threatened as far as his life style. He just dosent appear to care about anything but his own wellbeing.
  • That retired officer Mr. Finch looks so sad throughout his whole testimony :(
  • anyone else happy for the jurors when they say their lunch has arrived? :)

Why do we need all this fingerprint evidence? We know who did it. I would like to see a picture of him as a little boy so I can have some kind of feelings for him. How could a child who is well taken care of become so detached from his parents? And why did the sisters not be concerned about his antisocial behavior? At least he didn’t kill the dog. I want to know what his plan was to clean up the mess. I could think of better ways to knock someone off and make the body disappear. Making a bloody nasty mess would not be included.

I hope that collar and tie are choking him!! He turns my stomach! Those knives are brutal weapons he used on his parents, his Mother's body showed signs he had twisted those knives in. What a terrible and horrendous torture at the hands of her Son. He isn't a man, he's a monster who planned his crime in detail, with lists and explanations. To put his remaining family through the extra pain of a trial when he can't hope to walk away from this, is more evidence, if we needed it, of the nightmare he's become to his step-sisters. I'm counting on the Judge to use the full weight of the law on him and showing him just what we as a society think of him. Lock him up for the sum total of his natural life without the possibility of parole. There can be no mercy shown to him, he has sat unmoved and unemotional through out.

Defense attorney looks just like Mr Burns no more nuclear plant for him
  • It's extremely hard watching Thomas French(the crime scene guy) open and hold things up....he either has a illness that causes him to shake badly, or has a drinking problem, and needs a drink badly.
  • @shelleyj1780
At least the witness box microphone is being sprayed/sanitized between witnesses, at least that’s what I think I’m hearing. Some cases I ve watched elsewhere it didn’t seem they were.
  • @xixxxxix5084
Is it that hard to stay on front of the mic, mr prosicutor?
  • Palm print was very dicey...where did it come from and wasnt his palm print expected to be on that sight?
  • @JoGirl73
Geez. He shows no remorse! What a waste of skin 😡
