Tennessee man Joel Michael Guy Jr., 32, stands trial in the horrific 2016 murders of his parents Joel Michael Guy, Sr., 61, and Lisa Guy, 55. The trial is scheduled to run Monday, September 28 to Friday, October 2, according to records. The Law&Crime Network will be live each day with coverage running from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET.
The defendant’s three sisters reportedly told authorities everything seemed okay when the family sat together for Thanksgiving in 2016. But just days after that final get-together, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said Joel Guy Jr. murdered his parents in especially horrifying fashion. Both victims were stabbed and dismembered, their remains placed in different rooms of the house, deputies said.
Authorities suggested the murders happened sometime between Friday, November 25, or the middle of Saturday, November 26. Guy Jr. allegedly put his parents’ remains in “an acid based solution” to destroy evidence.
Investigators said that the defendant, who had been in living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after reportedly withdrawing from Louisiana State University, returned home on the 27th after killing his parents. His parents were last seen alive on Friday the 25th.
Authorities say that Guy Jr. killed his parents after they told him they would no longer pay his bills.
Someone wants the possibility of the death penalty for this case. It’s not the prosecution. The defendant recently asked that he be allowed to represent himself in motions that request the judge and jury be allowed to consider capital punishment in the event of a conviction.
To be clear, the state is not pursuing the death penalty for him. The reason why is currently unclear.
“Ethical rules prohibit the District Attorney’s Office from commenting on pending cases,” said Sean McDermott, a spokesman for Knox County District Attorney General Charme Allen, said in an email to Knox News.

This evidence tech is such a brave young woman. You can see that she suffered emotional wounds during her hours at that crime scene. She's a sterling example of what an evidence tech should be. Strong, resolute, and a credit to her craft.

He's reliving murdering and dismembering his Mother and Father. I can't even imagine a human doing that, but he is inhuman. A pure psychopath. Scary! 👿

I know this case very well, and I am not making light of the magnitude of the loss. But can we all agree that Joel Jr. doesn’t look a day older than 56?

Oh how horrific! I have a son who went wayward and he thought nothing of stealing precious belongings and lying constantly. I have 4 children and the other 3 don’t do things like that. It’s him. It breaks your heart to have to be tough on them because this person was once a child you loved with your whole heart. I cannot imagine what gets into them to do these evil things. I was afraid of him and now I live where he is not privy to my address. You have to wonder just how many parents are actually killed by their adult children really. We live in dangerous times

I couldn't help thinking as he was cleaning his face shield, that hand is the same one that cut off his own mothers head! And the hand that stabbed them to death. He doesn't show any remorse either he actually acts proud of himself! What a psychopath.

I think it’s so odd how he’s trying to present himself as professional. I think he’s getting a kick out of feeling important. It’s almost as if he is playing attorney in his mind look at the way he sits takes notes and clicks his stupid pen.

I can’t even imagine what his parents must have been thinking when this first started, how devastating. He is very disturbed, his bugged out eyes and he shows very little emotion. He’s very creepy. This is so disgusting, sad and heartbreaking.

What really gets me is, his facial expression hasn't changed not once during the entire court proceedings - I've caught him smiling or grinning a few times, usually at the most inopportune moments, but other than that, nothing. The video where the Medical Examiner went over her evidence and findings, they were showing some really graphic pictures, as well as discussing what the victims suffered, the various injuries, and the damage all of the caustic chemicals had done to their skin, etc....Ol' Joel was stone cold. Not a single tear, and what got me, is most people would be repulsed and mortified at looking at pictures of their parents' crime scene/Murder photos, as well as Autopsy photos, and most would either have to at least look away or leave the room....some may even have to throw up at the sight of them. But not Joel. He almost appeared to be proud of his handiwork. Personally, I think they should just do to him the same as he did to his parents. See how he likes it. What a low-life, spoiled, waste of skin. People like him need nothing less than a bullet in the head. Plain and simple.
