Lyrics:

he put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette
She broke his heart he spent his whole life tryin' to forget
We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time
But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind
Until the night

He put that bottle to his head and pulled thetrigger
And finally drank away her memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength he had to get up off his knees
We found him with his face down in the pillow
With a note that said I'll love her till I die
And when we buried himbeneath the willow
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby

  • This song is from the heart that has been broken. My mom cheated on my dad when he was in Vietnam. She shamed herself. Something broke in dad and he left one day to heal in the wilderness. To this very day I have not seen nor spoken to him. I know he is alive and well. He has another family now. I have not tried to contact him, I don't want to bring the sadness back to him. By reminding him of a life he worked hard to forget. I love you daddy.

Even in 2024, the haunting beauty of 'Whiskey Lullaby' by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss continues to captivate hearts. This song is a timeless masterpiece, weaving a poignant tale that echoes through the years.

Iā€™m not American so please excuse for any errors. I just found this song randomly on a bus traveling just two weeks ago. Rain was pouring and the snowy fields covered in snow melting slowly, all is dark, the bus warm and cozy. Damn, I started choking up hearing the chorus. Honestly it felt like I havenā€™t been listening to music at all in my whole life, until I heard this song. Exceptionally well written and straight to the heart type of lyrics.

I'm leaving this comment for my son to see. Your old man loved this tune. With a glass of Irish whiskey in hand.

My brother died in August. He was way too young and struggled with alcoholism..he fought so hard to beat it. And my own mom drank herself to death and this song makes me think and cry for both of them. He never got over losing her. And in the end I lost both. I wish I could join him some days. God give me strength to face the future without my best friend, my brother.
  • So many couples would still be together if they take their vows seriously; not backing away when circumstances led them astray. šŸ’œ

You will never understand unless youve lived this. Grandad fought in both world wars. Dad fought nam. Brother went to Afghanistan. Im just a witness. God bless our soldiers. And god bless us who couldnt serve due to health. Because we would have. We would have. ā¤
  • This song makes me wanna cry. I will never understand how anyone can cheat on their significant other. I can't imagine doing something like this to my man. No matter how long hes gone i will wait faithfully for him to come home to me.
  • This sad song hits me hard on Valentineā€™s Day of 24. I realize that my sweet Johnny is the only one I shall love forever so I thank Brad Paisley & Alison Krauss for this haunting duet. May God bless them. ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

Folks, this song is real for far too many people. Itā€™s not a sin to have a drink, but it is to be drunk and it is to be a drunk. If you cannot cut yourself off after one or two then you need to accept the truth that you canā€™t handle the stuff and that you need to abstain from it forever. Life is short, my friends - donā€™t spend it drunk and alone. No matter how bad your life may seem to be today it can get better. You are not a mistake and you are not an accident, and you have purpose and value. I know itā€™s difficult to know what your purpose in life is - Iā€™m 45 and still donā€™t know my own, only that I do have at least one - but you have dignity and are worthy of happiness. Donā€™t let booze take it all from you, because if youā€™re an alcoholic it will take everything you love away from you. I donā€™t know you, but Iā€™m begging you to enter a treatment program and turn yourself from an alcoholic into a recovering alcoholic - it will save your life.

Crazy, that the sound of gun and mortar doesn't break a soldier's heart, but the loss of his woman drag him to six feet under.
