Tim: "For some time I've been keeping certain tunes off t'internet in order to ensure audiences of my live shows get a few surprises. I like surprises. However, as an Easter gift I'm putting the Tim Minchin and the Heritage Orchestra version of "Thank You God" up on the YouTubular for y'all to enjoy. I do hope you do.

When you think of a genius response after the conversation is over...
  • This guy spent countless hours writing, composing, practicing and performing a song with a full orchestra to tell Sam he's a colossal fuckwit. This, ladies and gentlemen is the definition of amazing.

My mom had a stroke last September that paralyzed half of her body. My dad and all of their church prayed for months for her recovery. She refused to take her medications because God was going to heal her. She had another stroke in January that led to permanent brain damage, leaving her in a hospital bed in her living room, all the while my dad prayed for God to intercede. She passed away three weeks ago after going into a coma for a weekend. If only she had an eye problem God could have healed her like he did Sam’s mom.

God really fixed Sam's mom's cataracts so that Tim could create this masterpiece, dude truly works in mysterious ways.

Update on Sam: he no longer fears Hell. Nothing could burn him as badly as this.
  • @PaulTheSkeptic
I could just imagine Sam's reaction. Sitting there, arms folded, blank look on his face, "Well, you didn't have to be a dick about it!" Ha ha.

Hes not wrong. I remember reading some words written by a surgeon. He said, and I'm paraphrasing, that after spending 4 years pre graduate, 3 years post graduate and 4 years specialising: every successful, life saving/changing operations, the family would thank the Lord, but God forbid (pun intended) anything went wrong, then God played no part in that. That was all on the highly trained surgeon
  • Something about closeups of musicians being perfect professionals in service of the most sarcastic song ever written is really funny to me
  • @nathrogers7
This is just a hunch but I don't think Tim's apology was all that sincere.
  • @Megapixel8063
We’re reaching levels of sarcasm that have only ever been theorized to exist.
  • @mathewdeering
Tim Minchin is amazing as always, but can we all appreciate how FUCKING BANGING the orchestra is. Those horns and strings moved the song from a snarky, clever ditty to a fucking epic.
  • I'm a trumpet player, and I have no idea how this orchestra managed it, it's usually impossible to play when you're trying not to laugh
  • @Piotrmiko
Always wondered how much sarcasm can fit into one song.
  • @PauKj
Tim certainly knows how to deliver a 'Fuck You!' in the grandest way possible.

I was raised Southern Baptist in the American South. When I deconstructed my faith and became an atheist it really upset a lot of my Christian friends. They would ask me questions that, although annoying, were sincere and I was happy, or perhaps more accurately "obliged" to answer them. I was once asked if I didn't miss the wonderful feeling that Christians get when listening to "praise music". I tell them that I have music that gives me those feelings as an atheist and then I point them to this video. This is atheist praise music of the highest quality!

When someone uses an entire orchestra to mock you for ten whole minutes xD
  • @jamesdinn7333
The sheer devastating amount of scathing sarcasm that this song delivers while still being logically sound and argumentatively concise is absolutely stunning. On top of that the humor and wordplay is simply perfect. An ingenious piece to say the least!

"Love without evidence is.. well.. stalking" -Tim Minchin
  • @Onlytime1234
that last line "if you get that right, then he just might take a break from giving babies malaria, and pop down to your local area to fix the cataracts of your mom" is perfect in every way.
  • @SatansFire
That kid behind Minchin on violin smiling like an idiot the entire set up of the story gives me so much life
