The Empire Earth Review covers the Gold Edition, which includes the main game and the Art of Conquest Expansion. I really wish Empire Earth HD could become a reality.

Man, I remember driving my parents absolutely nuts with this game. We only had 1 computer in the house, and no headphone, so my parents were forced to listen to this horrible cacophony of clangs and bangs. I'll never forget assembling armies of stealth bombers and just nuking the absolute shit out of everything on the map. Almost 20 years later, my parents still sometimes make fun of me by yelling "we are undah attack!!" Good times.

I will always remember the line from the Russian campaigns first mission "Halt! A dangerous criminal is on the loose, we must check your vehicle" "Relax Yuri this truck is just carrying potatoes, you may pass"

Hi! That's my voice that you are using as an example of bad VO. :-) To be fair, I was the Lead Designer, not a VO actor. And I have no memory of recording VO for the game, but it's hard to refute the fact that it's me. And I agree that it was not good, neither the VO or the expansion.

The voice acting of the prehistoric shaman was ingrained into my head forever

Short Sword: "Attack with sharpened steel!" Me: "Uh. It's the Bronze Age..."

Honestly, the best thing about EE...well, it was building cities in the map editor. When a 7 year old child that does not understand a lick of English can use it without help, then you are doing things correctly. And yes, I was that kid who would be wiped out early game and proceed to act as a micro nation for a stronger teammate, simply being content building an empire of farms.

Playing against the AI felt like having a constant attack of 2 mosquitos for 3 hours while you try to build a nice looking base until you snap and just nuke the entire map. I still have PTSD from the AI constantly spamming priests to convert 1-2 of my guys at a time and bombarding random pieces of my wall just outside of my towers' reach

Mentioning the game being a war of attrition reminds me of my all time favorite MP game ever. I picked camouflage and pathfinding in a map. The game locked out before ww2 so no nukes and limited air power. My opponent quickly overwhelmed my bases, but my units had one advantage. They could walk through forests and turn invisible. What began was the Vietnam War as my enemy couldn't find my units, and I couldn't kill enough of his. It was just me having sharpshooters sitting beyond the treeline until one of his patrols autoexploring the map would happen by. Kill a few, run away. He eventually built the wonder that lets him see all buildings, which forced me to adopt a system of building a base, getting as much resources as possible, then running away before he could respond. It was great. I don't think any other RTS game had such organic, asymmetrical possibilities that would just emerge out of a little creativity.

I was a beta tester for Empire Earth 3. There was this unfortunate bug... When we'd go and try to submit a bug report, we'd get a "503 error" and were asked to try again. It never worked. This answers most of the questions people have after they first play it.

    When i heard "IAKATOTA" "AI-ACHA" and "YO-YAAA-KII!" i instantly had a nostalgie hit :D
  • @DerMunger
Also EE had one of the most expansive campaign creators out there up until today. You could even write cutscenes and much much more.
  • @snafing
whaaat? i love the soundtrack "enmity". it gives the game such a special feeling.
  • @PotatoMcWhiskey
Empire Earth is one of my favourite games of all time, used to do island maps and rush to airplanes to murder people :D
  • There was a documentary from the History Channel that I remember watching in my Freshman year of high school and it was using footage from Rome Total War

"The AI in this game cheats and it cheats hard. The best example can be found in the russian campaign." Of course.
  • Man... the era of comfy RTS * Age of Empires * Empire Earth * Stronghold + Crusader * Anno series Such a good time, that was.
