  • I totally get it! Being a teacher is hard and when life gets messy, we put ourselves last. I was putting myself last for years. I recently started focusing more on my health and fitness and I’ve noticed a change in my mood and my energy levels. I’m more energized to deal with the stresses at work. I meal prep and give myself tons of good snacks for me!! I’m always so full from the right things I put into my body, that when I see the bad things I’m too full to even try. I also make sure to take any down time at work, haha what’s that!? 😂 And do stuff like read a book or listen to music. Even if it’s just 5 minutes.

I work in a SPED classroom as well, and a trick that I've found helps me choose to forego the staff room goodies is to chew sugar free mint gum while I'm at work and it isn't lunch or snack time. When I try to take the mint gum of my mouth to eat something the new flavor and the mint flavor come together to create an awful new flavor. Since I know it will taste bad it increases the chance I will pass on the treats. I know that in many classrooms him isn't considered appropriate though.

I just found your channel a few days ago. I'm 40 years old and planning on student teaching for SPED this fall. I just wanted to let you know that I can tell what an amazing person you are and when you speak of your students, it is so touching. I know how stressful life can be and anxiety sucks, especially since sometimes there's no rhyme or reason to it. Try to take the summer and live in the now, love your family and laugh as much as possible. I truly hope things get less stressful for you. In the mean time, know that your videos are helping a lot of people!

I'm struggling with the self-care too. I'd say take one hour for yourself everyday, if you can. If that means getting up an hour earlier, do it. For me, that means reading a book for 30 minutes before going into work. Good luck!

Mary Kay eyeliner is really great. You are so beautiful and vibrant even with everything going on. Sending you so much love!
  • You are amazing! As a teacher and a mom of a kiddo with autism who is now in college, I get it. I struggle to take time for myself and work ridiculous hours. My nest is empty and my husband often works night. Ice cream for dinner, why yes please. My goal is to make a crockpot meal on Saturday and Sunday to eat throughout the week. I have been eating the same breakfasts, lunches, and snacks throughout the week and then I only have to track one time for those meals. That’s the plan. From one stress eater to another, I feel your pain!

Hi!!! I'm Abby, and I'm an elementary education major, and I came across your videos while getting some inspiration for a special education research paper I'm writing. I love that you have videos about being a teacher, including all the joys and pains, because I love to imagine what I'll be doing when I'm actually a teacher, buying stuff for my classroom and planning out my weeks. Even though it's not a typical job for a youtuber to have, thank you for making these videos because they are so encouraging to someone like me who is working to be a teacher! I can't wait to see all your videos in the future.

Gosh, I have felt like this all year. I started a new position this school year as a one-on-one educator. It has been the most stressful position I've had. Honestly, in the beginning I wanted to quit, but I cared about the kiddos I was assigned to so much that I couldn't. I've taught myself a lot about recharging my batteries and keeping myself healthy this year. You are going to figure out some routine, and you'll rock it!

I'm a 6th grade collaborative teacher, and I feel you on all the points you made in the video. It is a never ending to do list!! 😕
  • @sgeee
Im a sped teacher also. Finishing up my 5th year. I was ready for your soap box on standardized testing. I hate that our kiddos are expected to test at their grade level. Our kiddos have accommodations and then we are expected to stand back and just encourage them when needed. It’s so heartbreaking!
  • Girl I feel you! I was just telling my boyfriend that I don’t know how I’m going to lose weight in this job of special education. I also have really tough kiddos and all the stress of special education. I hate the progress reports. I have over 80 goals to report on yippee! I’m glad I’m not alone though!
