The only winning move is to not play. Not many people are going to do this, but "go without" is definitely a choice.

Don't forget the TV equipment fees, along with the Broadcast TV fee and the Sports TV fee. Add them all up and they cost more than the actual TV plan price. In other words, when you show a $70 fee for the Popular TV option, that's only about half of the total monthly bill depending on how many cable boxes you need. Even on a 2 year contract, including internet, the total price with two cable boxes and a gateway, you're looking at more than $200. That's why so many people hate Comcast/Xfinity. You sign up for 2 years expecting a certain price, but in reality you wind up paying at least double that amount. And the only part of the price, even on a contract, that doesn't change is the base price. They can and will change the prices for the Broadcast and Sports fees whenever they want, and the same applies to rental fees for equipment. You can bet they will also play pricing games with these new streaming bundles and try to lock you into a 2 year contract. The old dog is not likely to change it's spots.

I gave cable providers here in Canada a special salute 4 years ago. They squeeze Canadians left right and center. The Canadian government passed a federal requirement that streaming services had to pay a fee for streaming in Canada. The incumbents that own the internet also own the cellular networks as well. They have bought up the small cell providers. There are no small internet providers. I pay for Netflix and that is it and that price is going up because they are cancelling their grandfathered in plan.

Does anyone else see the streaming services introducing a disconnect fee or a reconnection fee. I can see them introducing a big fee to stop people from churning.

Best option stop watching everything go out and touch grass. :)

Let me remind people why people started cutting the cord. It was never about the price of cable, it was the absolute refusal to give the customer a la carte choices. Even senator John McCain went to war against the cable companies when it came to ala carte services with cable. Me personally, I would not have had ESPN. But since the cable companies, comcast, didn't give me a choice I cut the cord.

Comcast has revealed the price of their Apple TV, Netflix, and Peacock bundle: $15 a month. That price will give you ads on Netflix and Peacock (at this time Apple has no ad tier). No word on what an all ad free plan will cost.

Long story short the business model is collapsing and now the entertainment companies are trying to make up ground. The cable business was one of the most profitable enterprises ever. Forcing everyone to pay for channels they didn’t want, from sports to home shopping. When cord cutting started in earnest 7 to 8 years ago conventional wisdom was viewers would replace cable with a cable alternative like Sling TV or PSVue. Turns out one in three cord cutters felt they needed a live TV service. This trickled down to cable channels and your local network affiliates who as of the mid 2000s were making more money from retransmission fees than selling ads.

Super informative. I can say the people I know at Comcast haven't gotten them memo yet so this was 100% news to them.
  • @hawaiifiles
I ain't paying for any bundles now and don't intend to ever. Nothing on paid TV is that compelling. I do fine with OTA, FAST channels and plain old YouTube.
  • @loulopez554
Thanks you honestly just explained everything I wanted to know in a nut shell!
  • I guess i should keep on buying the Blu-rays as much a possible and keep an at home media server so i can limit how many streaming services i will need
  • @CrimsonTideGuy
But net Neutrality rules passed by FCC now bans comcast from doing that. "It prohibits internet service providers from blocking, throttling, or engaging in paid prioritization of lawful content."
  • @Meadaa
so interesting wish tv was great like in the early 2000s
  • @dennisud
I added an antenna and play for the basic service from Spectrum, only paying for Disney+ & Paramount+! (Star Wars & Star Trek fan!)
  • @johnwalshaw
This is interesting for sure. I wonder if the Comcast bundle will be linked to the existing email account ID for each streaming service. People love their watch lists!

Prediction, there will be a lot of buy outs and take overs, Mergers. It won't be long, it will be more expensive than Cable.

Hi, I have a quick question, not about this video which I appreciate, however, it’s about a video you did a few years ago comparing the Samsung T7 touch versus the T7. Right now the touch is on sale for a lot less than the non-touch version. my question is are both drives exactly the same except for the fingerprint security feature? And do you think they will run with the new iPads? Do you think it’s old technology and I should look for a newer version?
