The famous Harleen Quinzel and Pamela Isley are notoriously two of the most famous villains in comic book history, or even just female characters in general. Since the debut of their meeting in the BTAS episode “Harley & Ivy” (back in January 18th, 1993), their bond has blossomed in ways no other comic book relationship has.

In this video I discuss the slow burn effect of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy’s relationship throughout DC Comics and all the mediums they provide. Gotham City Sirens (of which they’re both in) was the very first comic book I read, leading to the pit of obsession I had towards DC Comics, and both their characters in particular.

As someone who has been a fan of their dynamic from the beginning, as a very young teenager who was in love with their scenes, to see the results of a relationship that has almost taken twenty years to transpire is so, so rewarding. DC Comics being completely welcoming to the romantic aspect of the Harlivy duo after so many years is something young me has wanted for so long.

I haven’t covered comic books on this channel before, so this was a deep dive into a different medium for me. But I had so much fun with the challenges it brought, and was more so really passionate to cover something that I have been a fan of for years. Thank you for waiting so patiently, and I’ll catch you next time with another manga video!

Any day a Lines In Motion video comes out is a good one. You killed it as usual Dani, awesome vid.
  • Harley and Ivy is a pretty good example of an enemies-to-lovers slow burn. I love it.

Over the past couple of years DC's finally admitted what fans knew for hers. Hard and Ivy are in love with each other.

I love how they were not made for each other manually, i.e. no one really planned to have them get together at the beginning, but as their own story progressed, they become more apparent to be naturally made for each other.

Creating a cohesive visual aesthetic for characters like these who have been adapted over multiple mediums over several decades and styles is incredibly difficult and you've pulled it off in flying colors!

I love this. Im someone who mostly consumes mainstream DC content, and before all the romantic relationships just doesn't matter much to me. When I encounter this pairing, it just feel right. I wish the Birds of Prey (one of the best DC movies) franchise get to this cannon pairing.
  • @kymimorro
i really do want a live action movie that depicts harley and ivy's relationship, especially since in birds of prey, its canon that the joker broke up with harley, idk, i would just find that interesting :)
  • @TravenTalks
This is a great retrospective! I'd always been aware of Harley & Ivy's relationship, but I didn't realize how deep it ran, and you gave a nice through-line to its history. Also, I just have to say, the thumbnail for this video is genuinely amazing, in so many ways, lol

I really hope they can get married someday and live happily together. They truly deserve each other.

As a baby gay back in the 90's, Harley and Ivy was the first time I'd ever seen two women in anything like romantic love. I was still a long ways from understanding I was a lesbian but even as just a child I was captivated by their relationship. The Batman Animated Series was my first foray into DC since I was primarily a Marvel girl (Marvel hooked me young with X-Men, Iron Man, and later Deadpool lol) and until just recently I didn't bother to follow ANY DC content with the sole exception of Harley Quinn, especially when she was with Ivy. My brother and I were so excited when the first Harley Quinn comics came out and they were really blatant about Harley and Ivy being romantic. ❤
  • Love the fact that they both were Doctors (PhD) and with the circumstances that lead them to one another they chose to stick to the path where they are together

people probably say this constantly but MAN YOUR EDITING IS AMAZING. Especially now that you're animating panels. You deserve all the recognition possible and more!

I’m not ashamed to say my 11 year old self shipped these two the moment I watch BTAS ep Harley and Ivy. Saw these two and my kid brain said: Yeah they are super in love. They even live together!
  • @crestren5996
Harivy is the most compelling and best romance dynamic Ive ever seen. I love them.
  • THIS. This is why I wrote an essay for English class on why I love the Harley Quinn animated series (with a specific focus on Harley and Ivy’s relationship). I am in love with their character arcs and their slow burn love story. And I’m new to the DC universe! The new animated series was the first time I ever encountered the Harlivy relationship and it really hit home for me. I’m dealing with a toxic relationship (though parental rather than romantic) so the themes of finding individuality and recovering from abuse really resonate with me. I’m now trying to catch up on decades of the Harlivy relationship because they are my newest obsession. It’s a beautiful story that I cannot get enough of.
  • @FukuchiTwins
I didnt even know they were a canon couple! i just thought they were a ship! welp, poison ivy is probably a much better partner for harley than the joker :'v
  • @eatonuter7113
I grew up watching mostly DC movies, but I never really knew of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy's relationship. Sure, Harley will ALWAYS be Harley, but watching the animated series on HBO Max, I started to learn and understand why it's a big deal. They've been together for nearly three decades and have been through a LOT. Great perspective on the history of the two female icons of Gotham!
  • @Otaku_Reaper
"babe wake up" "huh" "there's a new lines in motion" "huh" start's watching the video
  • @Julia-od7xt
It really is a beautiful story to cover and I haven't seen many people doing it, so thank you! And, must say, your editing is so smooth and professional, I enjoy watching it every time. Looking forward to your future projects!
  • @BellaGem
I love them due to this. They feel real. Started as friends and had a common background. They could just talk about life and the abuse of others. They healed each other. This is my favorite girl couple. Also showing bisexuality. I love ivy and Harley as they started from friends to lovers. True love should always start like this. I love them 💚❤️💚❤️❤️💚
