NOTE: TN is a DP state, but DP is not being sought in this case.

Tennessee man Joel Michael Guy Jr., 32, stands trial in the horrific 2016 murders of his parents Joel Michael Guy, Sr., 61, and Lisa Guy, 55. The trial is scheduled to run Monday, September 28 to Friday, October 2, according to records. The Law&Crime Network will be live each day with coverage running from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET.

The defendant’s three sisters reportedly told authorities everything seemed okay when the family sat together for Thanksgiving in 2016. But just days after that final get-together, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said Joel Guy Jr. murdered his parents in especially horrifying fashion. Both victims were stabbed and dismembered, their remains placed in different rooms of the house, deputies said.

Authorities suggested the murders happened sometime between Friday, November 25, or the middle of Saturday, November 26. Guy Jr. allegedly put his parents’ remains in “an acid based solution” to destroy evidence.

Investigators said that the defendant, who had been in living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after reportedly withdrawing from Louisiana State University, returned home on the 27th after killing his parents. His parents were last seen alive on Friday the 25th.

Authorities say that Guy Jr. killed his parents after they told him they would no longer pay his bills.

Someone wants the possibility of the death penalty for this case. It’s not the prosecution. The defendant recently asked that he be allowed to represent himself in motions that request the judge and jury be allowed to consider capital punishment in the event of a conviction.

To be clear, the state is not pursuing the death penalty for him. The reason why is currently unclear.

“Ethical rules prohibit the District Attorney’s Office from commenting on pending cases,” said Sean McDermott, a spokesman for Knox County District Attorney General Charme Allen, said in an email to Knox News.

This judge is the judge you want. He's really cool and down to earth. He's a great teacher.
  • One thing's for certain....or at least seems so to me. He appears to actually have enjoyed reliving this through the evidence presented. And that is almost as disturbing as the crime itself.
  • He just watches with no emotions, doesn't cry or hang his head in shame. Such a horribly gross crime. My heart goes out to his family.
  • Watching him look at the postmortem forensic photographs is creepy. He keeps trying to stop himself from smirking and he's so proud of what he did. One sick puppy right there!

As a mom the joy of finding out your having a baby and their birth, their fist steps and birthdays, all their milestones, but never think of the unthinkable that they may kill you? I can not rap my mind around it.

The way he watched his previous roommate enter and leave the courtroom still has me feeling grossed out and disturbed. He was so creepy and weird about it. He’s such a monster.

the way he looks at the pictures of his parents body parts is disturbing.
  • Thank the lord the daughter didn’t go there and the supervisor called for that wellness check.....it was the plan for the daughter to go there after work and check in on her parents because they hadn’t heard from them....omg thank goodness the police got there first. What a nightmare she would have walked into I thought. I don’t even know what kind of justice there would be for something such as this crime to be honest....

I have to say that this judge has a calm, thoughtful, and instructive delivery. I think he was a great choice for this case, because there was a lot of gruesome scientific information.

Defense attorney: (Tap, tap on shoulder) “...hey, you might want to divert your eyes from the screen periodically, it may help the jurors from loathing you.”

Im delighted that during sentencing the judge stated that he was well aware of the killers cold demeanor and showed no remorse. Im so happy the judge was paying attention and that affected sentencing

He seems to really savor the gruesome pics/testimony. I just cannot imagine what these poor victims had to be thinking....their own child attacking them!
  • @heatherlynn6751
I wish I could hear what his attorney is saying that is making him laugh and smirk as if he isn’t on trial for murdering his own loving parents.
  • @kathleen9768
He's so relaxed, looking all around. Looked like he was falling asleep once. You'd think he'd be hanging his head in shame. He acts like he doesn't have a worry in the world!
  • @purple4463
I can't believe he sat there with no remorse whatsoever, and even laughing at times when his lawyer spoke to him.

That female Prosecutor needs to stand at a mic. It's so annoying not being able to hear her at times.
  • He should be made to stand up during every second of this trial...no water or food or anything...how dare he think he's entitled....
  • @caroldunn2306
He is not crazy...but right down EVIL !!!! I feel so sorry for the parents, family and friends. ❤️🙏🏻
