That anti-tip bracket for the stove...I did not know about that, not being a builder of any kind. But I realize its importance and will check mine in the home. You're making an important contribution here.

Good stuff Renaldo! In my opinion (as an inspector), any head room height issue on a stairway on the final is shame on the inspector. The potential of a head room issue should be communicated on the rough inspection.
  • Great info, professor! I didn't know about the 2 nails or 1 screw at the balusters. Gonna add that to my template and start checking on those decks.

After looking at some of these videos, a lot of this is just sloppy, shoddy work. You don't even need to know code, just take the bare minimum pride in your work. I've got some land and have been thinking about building the majority of a little house out there myself and these videos have been really helpful, thanks.
  • Tip for your certs, call ICC and have them change all of your cert expiration dates to the same date. When you have multiple certs it's a lot easier to keep track of only one expiration date. Bonus tip, the building, plumbing, and mechanical plans examiner exams are almost the same as the corresponding inspector exams. You put in all of the time studying, might as well get two certifications out of it. FYI, the electrical inspector and electrical plans examiner exams are very, very different. Cheers

i appreciate you taking the time to make these videos. I just became an inspector, and I'm still trying to get a copy of the codebook (IRC). looking it up online isn't the same!
  • Thanks for the video. It would be helpful to include a link in the video description for part 2. Sometimes YouTube doesn’t show it next to the video.

Good video, I love the fact that you post the codes when you can. By the way on the stairs headroom part where you using a code buddy book to show the code? You my friend are a great source of information. Thank you
  • Love your videos. My wife and I are looking into building our own home in GA. Where can we get a copy of the IRC buliding coded book?
  • Thank you for your hard work. Can you please tell us where to get that cheat sheet you showed on the stairways?
  • I've been watching all videos, do have you have anything with stove and microwave vented to outside?

    7:37 doesn't look like 1.5" handrail clearance

That stairwell height should be caught in framing stage. They should make you repair it.
