"Ghost" Finally Rescued!

Publicado 2022-03-12
All rescues save lives and we appreciate and celebrate ever single one. Some entangled seals haunt us long enough to be given a name, because they evade capture and their rescue so often that it becomes personal for the rescuers. "Ghost" is one of them! He was spotted and photographed and reported to us many, many times by different fishermen, but each time he disappeared like a ghost before we could get to him. It took the rescuers several attempts to finally catch and free Ghost of his entanglement. When they got close enough, they used two rescue nets to capture him. He had three different entanglements around his neck, probably because he was found close to fish factories with lots of plastic rubbish floating around. Fish factories are an entanglement hot spot, during Ghost's rescue, the OCN team even caught and rescued another seal from plastic packaging. On the side, you can see many fishermen watching the rescue, they often report entanglement sightings to us, including Ghost. Seals are not popular among fishermen, seals are often seen as threat to the fish stocks, but that does not mean that they should suffer, and we appreciate the common ground. 🦭

Nice to see the seals are now showing up for their appointments on time like the second guy there!
  • @kamaboko1
Great job. Afterward Ghost was probably thinking, "I should have let myself be caught a long time ago".
  • @DylansPen
The other seal came up, "Is this the strap removal station?"

Good for Ghost, and his ghost friend who were both rescued. Great Job Seal Rescue Team.

It baffles me the eyesight these guys have. To see such small entanglements from so far away in a sea of seals. And to recognize certain seals is amazing. You guys are great and should be proud. We’re very proud of you all!! ❤️❤️❤️
  • @RustyRogers
Thanks also to the fishermen for their involvement. Their contributions and awareness will ultimately make life better.
  • It’s great that the fishermen are beginning to work with you now. Word of mouth. :)
  • Fantastic job, OCN! Not just the "Ghost", but another seal stuck with two straps! Nicely done! Thanks to the fishermen who alerted you!
  • @nicklager1666
I got to think of the Schwarzenegger quote i will be back when you got humbled by the seals. It takes more than that to stop OCN. Good job guys.
  • The seals seem not to mind the noise!! Thank you for persevering with Ghost and the others. 👏👏👏👏💙💙💙💙
  • @JonCollinsMedia
I love how that one popped up and was like "what's going on here?" And you guys are like "a rescue, get over here!"

"Don't grab it, Tony...don't grab it...." Tony grabs the end of the net and frees the seal. And all's well that ends well...🦭😉😎💙

Ребята вы супер. Мир Вам и Вашему дому. Здоровья счастья вам и вашим близким.
  • The fishermen will be a double help, calling seals in, and they won't be throwing trash in the ocean. That's awesome! You're making a difference!
  • @secret3957
Thanks to the fishermen for alerting you. Skinny seals are never a good sign, so I am happy you were able to catch them and remove their entanglements!

What an operation! It seems at least that the boat fishermen are becoming more aware of the seal dangers and want to contribute to the solution. That IS a good sign, as you said, Naude. The more they help by keeping their fishing materials under control, the easier your work becomes. Hopefully. I wish the rest of the world would learn the lessons of cooperation. Peace!
