This is the song that made me realized I had to live my life for me several years ago. I used to live my life based on others' opinions, I even sacrificed my own happiness for them. Until one day, when I was alone in my room during my depression, far from anyone who knew me, I listened to this song multiple times until I lost count. This song spoke for what my true heart was longing for years. At that very moment, I swore to God, I promised to myself, to put myself first, to choose things for me, to never sacrifice myself again for other people, to take any step that would never make me regret my life. And now after almost a decade, I look back at that fateful day, I'm not the same woman as I used to be. Never again I knelt before others' words before put a good fight for my own voice and life. As a profressor, I sang this song to my college colleagues and my students before my retiring, and I didn't know why my tears could not stop flowing from my eyes while I was singing with my manlike dignity and self-confidence. I would think that it is because I came from a very poor family in Taiwan and fought in my way to get my PhD from UT-Austin--which did give me full scholarship to solidify my way, and I still appreciate it deeply even now--to have become a college professor ever since then and did my way to encourage and inspire my students continuously to do their best way to become somebody to help themselves and to help this world in their future! Thanks for your kind sharing and thank Frank Sinatra greatly in his great singing of encouragement for realizing my goal and my students' goals by demonstrating his "My Way" as a valuable example in the most significant sound and sense!
