Seriously, there is no other actor in the world to compare to Sir Sidney Poitier! We are so fortunate to have been graced with this awesome man! We all have our favorites for sure. I am thinking: Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, A Raisin in the Sun, Lillies of the Field, A Patch of Blue, and To Sir With Love! Honestly, there are no mediocre movies that he was ever in. Other greats, No Way Out, Paris Blues, For the Love of Ivy, Blackboard Jungle, In the Heat of the Night, The Defiant Ones, and Children of the Dust. Other good movies of a similar genre perhaps but that he is not in are: I Passed for White (1960), All the Way Home (1957), The Ditchdigger's Daughters (1997), I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (1979), Sounder, The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman (1998), Cornbread, Earl and Me (1975), and Polly (1989), and so many more incredibly touching movies that I imagine many have not had the privilege to see, that should! Just wow!
  • I am happy that my stepfather introduced me to Sidney Poitier's movies back in the early 80's He is indeed a brilliant, gracious, and talented actor and human being.

He is a man who walks the talk and stays true to his values! Oh, how his eyes conveys warmth and slightly naughty humor! What an act, inside and out! We are so blessed to have you, Mr. Poitier!

  • As a kid growing up in the 2000s, one of our first DVDs was 'To Sir With Love'. It is still one of my favourite films. He was definitely one of my first crushes.
  • Always eloquent, caring, polite and if necessary defiant. What a trailblazer and role model. Thanks alot.

Does it get any better than this? The script, the acting, well, it deserves more than 3,500 likes. Where is the audience?
  • The greatest black actor of all time in film history. For me Denzel is a close second right behind Sidney all time. Those two are all time greats but Sidney Poitier will always be number 1 all time to me

i saw several of his films, but "A Patch of Blue" was definitely my favorite of all his movies. "To Sir With Love" and "Lillies of the Field" would be my next two favorites. Mr. Poitier was a wonderful actor. as a matter of fact, i regularly pull these oldies but goodies off the shelf and watch them again every now and then. just watched "A Patch of Blue" within the last couple of months, i believe.

If you listen closely you can still hear his Bahamian accent.

I wish he had continued to make movies, He did make a few but his activism was something he decided to devote his life to . What a man to look up too. His soul is full and inspires all of us.

I watched A Raisin In The Sun when I was the same age as Sidney Poitier’s character. I pretty much cried throughout half the movie.
