Russia's Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un have signed a new agreement that details mutual aid if either country were to be attacked. The deal also includes partnerships on trade, investment, and cultural and humanitarian ties. It comes as Putin made his first visit to Pyongyang in 24 years – and as both countries face escalating standoffs with the West.

For more on this, we talk to Yee-un Shin, who is a Journalist, Reporter and news anchor with South Korea's Ari-rang TV. She joins us from Seoul.

And DW's East Asia correspondent James Chater has more on this pact between Russia and North Korea.

The west says North Koreans are eating grass, and Russia is using shovels. Why worry, just ignore it. None of your business
  • @UnholyByChoice
I'm thinking Russia will be paying a visit to Iran next, if they haven't already.

Artillery shells for Russia, ICBMs for N. Korea. Wow.
  • @crazyworld9799
So only west can have security pacts but not non western states ?
  • @Shinobistrider
After the washing machines and shovels tech trees, Russia unlocked the poop balloon tech tree to counter NATO game changers.

This is, of course, Putin's response to the American/NATO preparations to strike targets deep within Russia in the context of their proxy conflict in Ukraine. The USA and NATO may take pride in this "wonderful" development...Such wisdom, intelligence farsightedness, and statemanship!

This is just like the old Soviet North Korea deal. But their obsession with portraits should be commended😂
  • Shouldn’t West be worried about Korea getting potential ICBM technologies now? That’s fast delivery, you know
  • @filmdude5058
If you want to understand who is isolated and who isnt, look at who came to the “peace summit” in Swtzerland a few days ago😂
  • The Russians have announced that they too will defend symmetrically. There is nothing strange about Russia arming its allies like what the US has been doing for decades already.
  • @Elsuper68
Putin doesn't needs weapons but North Korea needs an umbrella and Putin can provide that and help with his nuclear ambitious
  • the funny thing is first you created the problem and then you feel worry and concert LOL
  • @robijorum4113
What do we do as western bots ..we can no longer blame China for providing weapons 😭
  • @eyaklen4804
The collective/collapsing west not happy with Russia and North Korea.
  • Efficiency at it's best, low cost and effective weapons. They surpass the over priced weapons from the west. With 60 billion dollars you can buy endless supply of weapons from North Korea compared to a paltry that you can get from the US.

When the villains make their own alliance, you know the final battle is gonna be fire.
