if you don’t have a Gear VR account- I give a walkthrough in the video of what I did to resolve this at 2:51 - I also DID NOT HAVE A GEAR VR ACCOUNT before making this video. All credit goes to the subreddit guide which Ive linked in the description above..where a FULL walkthrough is given. Follow second method. Read the full guide and you’ll find other resources for games to download. Then come back and subscribe once you’ve revived your Gear VR YAAAAAY!!!

Its insane that this gadget had usb c 6 years before apple invented it

The GearVR is the reason I keep my old Samsung Galaxy S7 around. It doesn't seem to have any issue signing in to the service but then again it is still on Android 8. Personally I'm not sold on VR for gaming but for media consumption I'm a real fan. Sitting in a virtual movie theatre is brilliant and I have forgotten quite where I am at times, gotten up to go to the toilet and walked into a wall or my desk.

They should bring back Gear VR, it's a nice way to get into VR especially since it uses your phone, and phones have gotten way more powerful over the years and their displays are better with higher refresh rates

Fun fact: PSP already had a "cardboard" peripheral waaay before Google or Samsung. Metal Gear Ac!d 2 featured a 3D mode using a cardboard called SOLID EYE TOBIDAC!D. That was in December 2005, Google Cardboard, the first popular "headset" for phones appeared in June 2014. Sooooo, yeah.
  • I was in elementary school so obsessed with this and google cardboard

I remember trying the Samsung Gear VR at the phone store when I was a kid. I wanted one so bad, but I'm really really glad that ones like the Quest 1/2/3 exist. I currently own a Quest 3 and going back and watching videos like this to see if I would remember the Gear VR the same makes me super grateful that we have what we have now

These memories... This nostalgia... I remember how at the beginning (when the first VR goggles were just appearing) I was fascinated by their possibilities and watched every video about them that was available on the Internet. Many years have passed since then, and even though I have Oculus Quest 2, it is not the same feeling anymore... Once upon a time, putting on VR goggles (for just 10/15 seconds) during open school days was something amazing. And now... Well... I'm sitting at my fancy computer and looking at my Oculus, which I haven't turned on for so long that it has accumulated quite a bit of dust. If you could go back in time and, when you were 15/16 years old, be able to play with it for a moment... That would be something.

2:26 The Note9 works, but you need the Note9 specific adapter. Since the phone is thicker... im not sure if you can still find it online tho

I'm old enough that all this just seemed like yesterday. Finding these set up at Best Buy was probably the first mass introduction of VR to the public. I know I was blown away and got an earlier Samsung phone just to use the Gear VR. The little hand control was quite ergonomic with a nicer feel than the GO controller, IMHO. The touchpad on the side of the headset was also a pretty useful thing before the remote came out.

Happy to see that there is still interest in this piece of hardware. Here's to hoping that at some point the community will end up adding support for this headset in the future. Either through a cracked app or a new launcher as a whole.

I use this quite often for 3D movies, it’s amazing, and it was an accessory I got with my first flagship in 2016, being the Galaxy S7.
  • @Forrest_O.
Watched this on my Oculus Go. It felt very limiting, as I have experienced the Quest 2. Old VR may seem nostalgic to some, but it’s a very bittersweet experience in 2024.

thanks so much Bro for help me giving life to my old but Gold Gear VR!
  • I remember when I was a teen and I heard of it. I liked it very much
  • @ryanmalin
I still daily drive my S10. I purchased that phone specifically to play gear VR. I still got the old GearVR too but its just a collector item at this point. Went from GearVR to Q1 to RiftS to Q2 to Q3. Im happy with the current state of VR
  • @Toysourboy
My first flagship was the first Samsung Note phone. Was the best phone I ever used for Dungeon Defenders Second Wave and BTD Battles.
  • @NicCrimson
Bro the day phones has the software to do what the AR headsets can do would be insane. I love having one device that does it all.
  • @jkl6marcololz
You should really review the Samsung Galaxy Camera! It's a pretty bizarre Android device and I love it!
