I am honestly speechless by this story. It's a story that I've been wanting to tell for 7 years, and finally, I DID IT!

Papua Island is a wild place, to say the least. In many ways, it's considered 'the last frontier' in terms of off-the-beaten-path places on earth. And I went there completely alone, in search of the world's last humans who eat other humans. It's the last known place on earth to have this kind of bizarre culture and tradition.

Papua Island is (politically) split into two halves. The Western half is a part of Indonesia, while the Eastern half is Papua New Guinea, an independent country. I showed up in West Papua, all alone, and had to figure out how I was going to travel deep into the jungle to meet the tribe.

After a massive logistical nightmare (see my BTS video on my 2nd channel linked above), I ended up making it to the tribe where I spent 2 days, and it was absolutely incredible to learn about their unique way of life.

I'd love to hear your feedback on this story because my team and I put A LOT of time, effort, and energy into it -- and I think it's the future for this channel. If you are reading this, I am doing a contest where the 'most liked' or creative comment will win a prize - so feel free to share your thoughts!

I love you guys, and cheers to the first video of 2023! I hope you have a happy, successful, and adventurous year full of amazing travels and positive vibes. More stories coming soon!

I think this is the best story I’ve ever told. Thanks for being here with me , and I’d love to get your feedback on this kind of storytelling. This will be my future moving into 2023 and beyond! Love you guys and Happy New Year 🙏

You weren't misled to Maimuna tribe, your guide was just scared of the Korowai tribe. He saved your life...
  • @moecoble1246
Your guide knew what was up. He probably felt that taking you to the tribe that really does get down with cannibalism wouldn’t have been the best idea…Granted it’s not the tribe you wanted to go to…but it may have been the safest. I’m glad you chose to stay and learn about them❤️

The singing man walking over the bridge with his child upon his shoulders truly humbled me. His voice is majestic and made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Beautiful 😊
  • The production quality of this video is outstanding. The content is both informative and entertaining. Kudos to the creators! 😚
  • @Groscay
Someone needs to document the singing/music of this tribe. It is incredible and should be studied and immortalized
  • @adys6185
Martin is smart! He mislead that man on purpose to keep him safe! He knows the tribe more than any other tourist would and the potential danger of the tribe. This also lets them clear their name and educate people of their culture and the differences. Beautiful video! ❤

Yeah dude, i think your guide taking you to this tribe was a good idea and was a lot more interesting. A auspicious outsider coming to visit a cannibal tribe that burns and eats anyone they SUSPECT to be a demon could easily end in disaster. This tribe you can actually feel relaxed and not worry about being analyzed if you're a demon
  • I always love seeing youtubers explore places and tribes like this, it's gives so much of the other prospective that's often misunderstood. There's so much more culture, and human connection. It's amazing.

As a Papuan, Thank you for step in and showing this documentary of my people to another area of the world. We (as indigenous people) are very kind and very welcome towards new people as long as you are with another local and being accepted by the head of the tribe.. If you come with good intentions, The mother earth of Papua will be with you. I want to highlight that "not all tribe eat human in Papua", Most of them already are getting influenced by Church, so they are more open to outsiders. Again, Thanks alot drew. Hope you'll be visiting again for another amazing tribe in Papua! 💕

The kids are always so adorable. I appreciate how in tune with nature other cultures are
  • @prettygirl2no
you are so brave to go there. Thank you for showing the other part of the world. Be safe always❤
  • @CanaryKin
Drew, do you have a longer clip of the singing? it is soul nourishing You were lucky to have witnessed that.
  • Did anyone notice the organic sonorous pitch those two men displayed while they chanted their traditional songs??? That was amazing… Music knows no boundary, race or colour❤❤❤.
  • @melody657
their singing voices are so strong and melodious its absolutely spectacular
  • @oscarthagrouch
seeing how happy and wholesome it is in some moments is so cute 🥲
  • @jaciwhy4041
Just want you to know that your work is valued. From Haiti to this Papua videomentary, this is a living documentary that I value. We felt your fear through the smiles. Thanks
  • @ahmadin5681
Even for us (Indonesians) traveling to West Papua is way more expensive than to Malaysia or Singapore .. Respect your efforts bro 👍🏼 Anyway don't forget to visit other unique tribes in Indonesia such as Toraja, Baduy, Bajau
  • @LynnaeaEmber
We can't call these people primitive or poor. They are perfectly adapted to their environment and look healthier than most people living in western cities. They don't have all the material possessions that are a burden to us, and they have close friends and families giving them what is most important in life - Love.
