As a 76 year old, I finally have dug in and started enjoying learning guitar. Your kind and gentle approach makes it so easy to stay motivated, and I'm sure the little bits of progress I am making are providing a solid foundation for continued improvement. This makes learning fun! Well done and thank you.

I love your teaching. I am a 65 year old man trying to take up guitar to lead worship for our Home Bible Study. Thank you,
  • After Gall bladder exploded, I had stepped away, but coming back to it I still find Lauren Bateman a necessity for a beginner, get seated get strumming down and up, and fret fingering both down and up, add a few chords. I may not be a Marathon runner, I am not taking a step and landing flat on my face either. I am trying to get my kid to grasp the techniques of LEARNING I am hoping well through doing it and Ms. Bateman`s Tutelage he finally sees. I can only continue, hope and I can express gratitude towards teachers like this.

Hi Lauren,I am a lady from Sri Lanka(the profile photo is of my late husband who passed away 2 years ago😢)..went to a teacher or two, stopped playing few years ago, now I feel very lonely and took out my guitar again, which is a Birthday gift from my hubby.Thank God I found you, your explaining ,finger exercises, are excellent. Thank you Lady, will keep practicing 👍🙏

New beginner at age 70. Your exercises are helpful. Find I have to go slower with spider exercise and picking. All so new and enjoying it. I practice about half hour a day. Sometimes a bit less. Hardest part for me is getting fingers into position and will stick with it. You are easy to understand and patient.

Lauren Bateman is far and away the most thorough, patient and sincere professor of guitar I have as yet encountered. Thank you so much for your selfless effort and exceptional attitude. Please continue in good health. Michigan USA.

  • @noelstemple
I've been playing guitar/bass for quite a while but I just bought my sister a guitar and I've been looking for digestible, easy-to-follow, beginner demo's. This is by far the most patient and simplistic I've come across, excellent for 1st timers! 👌
  • Hi Lauren. I tried to begin playing guitar a couple years ago but then hurt my left hand and gave up. Since I recently found your channel, I am back at it . Thank you for simplifying things for us older guys who just want to make some music in spite of our wear and tear. Keep up your excellent work. God bless, Chris.
  • Lauren- My dad left his guitar to me when he passed away. I was 29. Growing up, he'd play it and we'd sing together. I have so many memories of the two of us enjoying making music. For the past 25 years, I have sat that guitar in the corner of the room saying "someday I will learn to play" I want to honor my dad and also play with my son who plays a wicked piano. I stumbled onto THIS video last week, and YOU motivated me to pick it up and start. I'm so excited! THANK YOU!!

I am a beginner at almost 68 years old! You are so calming and easy going and I love that! Thank you!
  • Lauren I am 63 and taking up guitar for the first time. With a plethora of "experts" on Youtube and having gone through a ton of them, you are by far THE BEST! Your style, your speed with us, your patience, your repetition and your attitude are over and above everyone else. Just sayin! Keep it up and I think by Christmas if I can get over finger tip pain, I may just get the hang of it. Thank you!
  • A tip to build callouses: don't even pick up a pick. Fret these strings every day for a comfortable length of time, even more as your fingers get used to it, thereby getting some toughen finger tips. I have a little something I use between picking up my guitar and mandolin, but it's not necessary for a beginner to get familiar with holding the instrument. After a period of time, talking small breaks doing other things, maybe, you should notice it gets easier to fret those notes. Use your pinky as well, because you will use it more often than is presented here. Watch other better guitar players to see what I mean. Then get your pick and hit a few notes from the first frets in as many places up the neck to get the feel with your left hand. You will notice that the notes get higher in pitch the further toward the sound hole you go. Use that pinky too. Try to reach to the next fret, skipping the adjacent fret. That pinky finger will come in handy in the future as you get better with guitar, or mandolin. Cheers, and good luck. Bob
