Many gamers will remember Dead Space 3 as the game that tanked the entire franchise... but what if that wasn't completely fair?

I think Dead Space 3 has plenty to offer in it's own right, but is that enough to pull it out from under the shadow of it's older siblings? Let's find out!

Thanks for checking out the video! Did you play Dead Space 3 back in the day? Are you going to play the new reboot, or The Callisto Protocol? Let us know in the comments!

What are your guys thoughts on Dead Space 3? x
  • I love all 3 honestly.. 2 is my favorite.. but 3 to me has way more replay value

I've been meaning to come back and watch this - and so glad I did! Also, you two have great banter. Loved it.

Massive fan of the series, 3 was amazing to play with a friend BUT when looking back and as I got to the end I did think it's been made casual and watered down for the masses rather than stick to the core of what made it what it was. The fact you can buy upgrades and weapons was a big no no for me, crafting weapons was cool but you do get massively op fairly quickly which takes the edge off
  • I kinda agree. Not as great as the first two games but it had a lot of cool stuff going on. I kinda wish there had been more of that open worldish space gameplay that you had before crashing onto the planet.

It's a fun game by itself with some really cool expansions to the lore and overall story, but it doesn't live up to the standard of Action Horror that deadspace 1 and 2 set -- 3 felt like more of an action game with horror elements rather than an action horror game. I blame EA for this entirely though -- I'm pretty sure Visceral game studios wanted to make a great horror game, but EA forced their hand into making it more action oriented with co-op and crappy microtransactions in order to reach the impossible sales goal that they set; I'm pretty sure EA wanted sales to be double what DS1 and 2 sold combined -- which is nigh impossible for a genre of game which is a little more niche. Any faults of DS3 are entirely onj EA in my books.

Good video, disagree with a few points but that's to be expected. I wouldnt say dead space is anything like RE6 in terms of how it differentiated itself from the prequels. Take away the roll and dodge and it's dead space through and through. The problems this game faced was a combination of unfortunate ingredients. The first one was the way they handled the introduction of coop. Now regardless of what anyone thinks this was visceral idea, not EAs. They originally planned to have a dark issac instead of carver, but that idea was scrapped. Now I'll tell you right away why it was scrapped. Anyone who has followed the story would have worked out what was happening. Now the key words there are followed the story, but that will come later. But this is why the coop was so choppy. Visceral had to rework the game for this and other reasons, so the coop felt tacked on. Then there is this whole microtransactions issue. Whether they should have been in there is not really the point. It's about how they are implemented. And if you are of age to play the game, then you should be able to take responsibility for your choice to buy them or not. Because they dont give you anything you cant gain by in game actions. Nothing. Then there is the simple issue of "pro gamer" outlets trashing the game before it even came out, for such reasons as I've given, and the mantra that its betrayed its horror roots. Such a thing is common place today. Everyone knows everything about a game before it comes out and its critiqued and judged before it's been played by anyone. But heres the thing. You dont need to play the game in coop. The game is perfectly fine from a stand alone story and gameplay perspective in solo. Like I've said, coop isnt really my thing, and I'm only going to complete it in coop to get a certain log. Its completionists and those who coattail them that moan about things being "purposefully" locked. Seeing carvers story is a nice addition, but to someone like me that does understand what is happening, it's not going to be a surprise or something I'm really going to miss. But the option for coop and an expanded view is there for people to enjoy, and apart from it feeling a bit flimsy it's a fine experience, in fact, it's become peoples go to mode (despite moaning about the game in general being less scary, yet playing in coop??) saying it's the way its ment to be played. Me? I'm fine with the single player. The whole shadow issac thing would have been easily worked out by anyone familiar with the overall story and its plot points. This is however the biggest problem with the fan base, and this is known from vast experience. No one actually knows what is going on. Some people have grasped certain aspects of the games story and lore but all are so far off it's not funny anymore, especially all these years later. And this relates to three because people are actually claiming dead space 3 should be scrapped because its deviated from the lore and story. In fact, there are people out there claiming the story has changed from one too three, claiming retcons have been made because people cannot answer certain questions they have. This is all untrue. With the exception of a time frame difference (which is why I'm looking for a log) the story, the plot points etc are ALL cohesive. Nothing has deviated. People would just not rather look at their own point and view and ask if they are wrong. More people love dead space for what they see it as, not what it is, and this is where a lot of the confusion and dislike stems from. If you have belief that game a means this, but then b and c say this, you are going to think something is wrong right? Well that's the same thing here. Nobody I've ever come across has understood what is actually happening. Wiki and youtubers are their info source, not the story and games, and this is a bad thing. You have groups of people who put themselves out there as the keepers of what dead space is, yet they dont actually know the story. And it's not just the story. People claim that three nerfed/buffed or whatever, the weapons in dead space 3, the og weapons like the plasma cutter etc. Well I can say for a fact (one you can absolutely go and check for yourself in my uploads playlist) that's not true. In all three games I've basically used the same three weapons, the plasma cutter, the line gun and javelin gun. No "op" chain gun that makes the game 'so easy' (despite its hardest modes being the least completed of any of the games) and people moaning it's to hard because it was made for coop. People are so confused and salty that their own confusion simply drives that hate. It stems from them not actually getting good at the previous games mechanics, then saying three is to hard. As for the horror aspect. In my view all three games have horror/terror at their cores. They just accomplish it in different way. Three happens to have the most horror/terror inducing part of any of the games. And some chapters as well. Now that's just my view, because these things are down to personal interpretation. But three has plenty of horror and terror. And as for the story etc. This is one of the main areas where we see group delusions, and people simply sticking together because 'dead space the best we loved it and you not real fan🤪' From the belief the wall guardian is somehow still semi conscious of what's happening, to make us whole meaning the marker WANTING back on its pedastal is all examples of miss interpretation. I know. when I finished three I had to go back to the other games and see where the moons fitted in. But make no mistake, make us whole has ment the same thing from game to game three, the moons. The moons are there from game one to three and all in between. Since about 2015 I've been saying this. And only now are people starting to take notice. And this is a problem. On the reddit, people have called for the relationship between the marker and necromorphs to be less conflicting and more obvious in the remake. This will not happen of course, but the simple suggestion says to me it's just more confusion. Like the markers implanting visions and hallucinations, to the marker turning dead bodies into necromorphs is all misunderstanding. And this is all easily provable. Then there is the whole changing ellies personality? How so? She went to tao volantis to stop the markers when no one else would. she wanted to stay when almost everyone else wanted to go home, issac included. Oh wait, it's the big breasts. Mmhhh, you mean like sports top with cleavage and girly pig tails from the second game???? Another example of crowd humping and simple blind hate. Same as fighting the human enemies. Yet the wi game was fine, and the dlc for 3 (apparently the REAL dead space 3) had you fighting mostly human enemies??????????? Or how they find it hard to believe that carver would give danik the codex. This is why I take very few people seriously about this game (or anything really nowadays). This all culminated in dead space 3 getting shat on before it came out, and it's only now starting to get its footing, with videos like this being made.......almost ten years later. The third in my personal view is the best of the three. From a single player experience it's amazing and challenging, and that's to much for some people so they hate what they cant do, and the coop becomes the mode. But for me, if you want the "dead space" experience, play it solo. It has some of the best sequences in the franchise, and the scariest or terror inducing in the machine. With a revised coop aspect and some single player cut scenes this would have been a better entry. But on it's own, the way it is? In my view I love it, I know what they were going for, and I understand the story.

7.6 out of 10. Not the best, but better than plenty of action/horror co-op games. It pales in comparison to the first two games.

Love the video! Enjoyed dead space 3 but yea not as good as the horror vibes of the others tbh
