Went homeless. Done Guerrilla Grazing by choice ever since

Aaron Fletcher has grazed his sheep and lived off the land as a traveling shepherd for 12 years. He calls it guerrilla grazing (a step above guerrilla gardening, he says) and he lets his sheep graze - with permission- public parks and side lots. Homeless by choice, he offers his services to small farms in exchange for food or a place to stay (though half his calories come from his sheeps’ milk).

Watch the other two stories with Aaron Fletcher's:
— Part II: Staying Healthy, diet & lifestyle tips    • Homeless shepherd shares hunter-gathe...
— Part III: Radical simplicity & autarky on a solo wagon micro-farm    • Homeless shepherd starts world's smal...

Aaron lives in a tiny metal cart home pulled by his sheep he has a bed. It packs a refrigerator/evaporative cooler, a shower (he uses a pesticide sprayer to pump up the water pressure), power (solar panel), sun oven, a mailbox stove for heat, bicycle tire wheels and a corrugated plastic roof.

Fletcher makes cheese and butter from his sheep milk and forages for seeds, fruits, vegetables and herbs. He’s created a map for foragers in his region. He makes some money with his scythe business - cutting noxious weeds for locals -, but he insists he’s not interested in making money and just hopes to serve as an example for other homeless interested in guerrilla grazing.

Who is this crazy man...? 10 minutes later: humm he is not crazy at all... 10 minutes later: this guy is smarter and more driven that I will ever be. 10 minutes later... What I am doing with my life???

I can’t understand why Aron doesn’t go to college and get himself a double degree and then get a large mortgage and spend the next 30 years working two jobs to pay it off.

I met Aaron last summer, grazing his sheep in Talent pastures. You just can't get more real than Aaron. He is what you see, a free human being, away from the politics, food crisis, and more that could be mentioned. This man sets a new standard of life. He is courageous and dedicated to showing us a new way, one that is in harmony with nature, and one which does not feed the corporate greed. He is a master teacher, and an innovator. Thank you Aaron!

I'm an older woman. Conventional. But, I have often dreamed of having the courage to live differently and when I see things like this it makes me smile. God bless this man and his sheep. As an animal lover and rescuer I am also impressed with his relationship with the sheep. Beats the slaughterhouse. What a mess we've made of our relationships with other species. Exploitation and cruelty. This man gains from the sheep, but it is more of a reciprocal relationship than exploitation. They're free - all of them.
  • This guy is not 'homeless'. He is just a nomad, a very talented and clever nomad.

He's not homeless. He's a shepherd. You can see how much those sheep love him, how happy they are. God bless this gentle man and his sheep. God bless them with peace and kindness everywhere they go.

seeing this video makes me cry. He's simple, humble, content and happy genius.
  • Thank you Kirsten. We normally overlook such people. You gave him his voice. It is good to stop and listen to those who choose to be different.

This guy isn't homeless, he's free. Brilliant and truly free. Internal happiness is true happiness.

I would not call this man's Life as "simple": he seems to have a pretty estensive set of skills and theorical knowledge about what he's doing. I bet he could lecture me for a whole year 24/7 Only to pass the very basics of his way of doing things.

Damn that's so unique! I've never even thought there could be such a lifestyle. This dude is real a genius

Homeless? I call him a nomad in an urban jungle. Wandering from grass patch to grass patch, living self sustainable with his few sheepies. Thanks for sharing the story of this amazing man!
  • Two things about this: I was going to say this man has taken it to another level, but, he's actually stripped many levels off. Next, I've never been so encouraged to have less. One of the best videos I've seen.
  • I'm absolutely in awe. This man is the epitome of eccentric genius. A wild inventor philosophy shepard. Absolute legend.

This kept popping up in my recommendations for... gotta be half a year, glad i finally clicked on it and watched! Wow what a legend!

I knew Aron 20 years ago. He was a very talented skateboarder & a good dude. I’ve worried about him since I heard that he was homeless but seeing this video helps ease my worry. It’s great to see his mind working out solutions the same way he figured out how to do skateboarding tricks. Thanks for making this video.

Very inspiring bloke. We have been so indoctrinated with the drive for success and progress, it can create a lot of blockages to creativity and joy. Aaron has obviously punched through that paradigm and has found a harmony that our ancestors enjoyed.
  • @KindnessInChaos
This is fascinating actually. Just to know it's possible to live off the grid like this. That solar thermos oven is amazing 👏
  • @thekito4623
When he breaks out the solar oven and starts cooking one amazing dish after the other the entire lifestyle takes on a very different dimension all of the sudden.
