Every year, millions of Muslims complete a pilgrimage to Mecca called The Hajj. This pilgrimage is obligatory for all Muslims and is considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam. But what does this pilgrimage entail?

“They've built a new bridge to help streamline the stoning of the devil."

since you are academic person , i should correct something . in Islam Ismail is not better than his brother . for us as Muslims both are equal and both are prophets .
  • @JohnWhatshisdoe
Great video! I'd love to see you go into more detail about Zoroastrianism.
  • Thanks for this video. Noted a mistake (I'm Muslim). The Qur'an does not say that Ismael was the favored son, neither does it say that Isaac was favored. Also, in certain early interpretations of the Qur'an, it was Isaac who was almost sacrificed (although today's mainstream interpretation is that it was Ismael). Also noting that the "stoning of the devil" is the only Hajj ritual that is not mentioned in the Qur'an.
  • What I love the most about your videos is, that you explain everything without bias or prejudice. You explain the political ramifications as if from a spectators view, refusing to take sides . But explaining each side as that side sees things. Without expressing opinions. You are a gentleman as wall as a scholar. It’s refreshing as well as informative. And I appreciate you. Please continue the great work. I’ve learned much from watching your channel. Much of what I’ve learned has caused me to research further. And consider what I hadn’t previously. Thank you.

For an intro video, I think you covered all the essentials perfectly. I watch your Christianity videos to learn, and your Islamic videos to see how well you explain stuff that I already know about (and admittedly, feel strongly about). On both counts, your videos are very well executed. Thank you!
  • Bravo! Very well explained, and interesting socio-political perspective at the end. Keep it up!

There is nothing in Islam that says Ismael is favorable to Isaac or vice versa

Also, the meat from the slaughtered animals is called “Qurbani” and it is required to be donated to the poor.

Thank you for this unbiased explanation! I can't express how much I appreciate learning about religions without having to listen to a pitch to join it!

There was never unanimous agreement among scholars that Ishmael (as) was the son to be sacrificed. By far, the majority opinion is that it was Ishmael (as), but the Qur'an does not actually specify. The episode, however is placed among verses about him. The very earliest opinions, those of the Prophet's (saws) companions, were more evenly divided on the matter. I have always considered it a needless point of division. If God wanted muslims to know, if it mattered, He would have specified it. None of us were present. Allah knows, and we do not. I do not expect you to know that little fun fact, since your area of expertise seems to be early Christianity. I enjoy your channel and appreciate this installment at this very important occasion for muslims.
  • Just here to say I love your channel. I've learned so much from watching.
  • @paradise1group
Always look forward to your videos, very articulate and information that's easy comprehend. Keep it up! (I'd love to hear more about lost texts from Christian literature, it's an interesting topic !)
  • @unknownexo
Fascinating stuff; I'm a Christian but I like to learn about other religions. I pray for the day we can all coexist peacefully
  • My most recent view of how the Hajj worked came from a National Geographic documentary filmed about 30 years ago so it's interesting to see how they've changed it since then.
