I believe this rare record is the only one Shutta did NOT make with her husband George Olsen. Ben Selvin was in the studio to cut two sweet sides under their name (Or under The Cavaliers) but also provided backing for this record. The flip side is "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf," so this was likely intended for Children.. "Snowball" to me is most associated with Louis Armstrong's recording, but Ms. Shutta's vocal is quite lovely. This record isn't tracking too well, I probably needed a 3.3 mil conical, which I don't have. The label number is given incorrectly in the video, darn!

Interesting selection and nice restoration work. "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" was a popular song from 1933 Disney cartoon and was recorded by many big Jazz artist including Ben Bernie and even Duke Ellington (although he did it in late 1950s). Anyway, thanks for posting!

Paul Robeson sang this song and did it justice before integration. Ethel sang and danced the "Peppy Ten Gallon Hat" in, "Whoopee!", starring Eddie Cantor. She was quite the entertainer. Ethel came in second to Annette Hanshaw. who won the contest as the most popular singer and awarded the title, "Personality Girl , in the Radioland national voting competition, ahead of Kate Smith and Ruth Etting. See Paul's "Snowball," and the "The Peppy 10 Gallon Hat" segment on youtube!
