Join me as I walk through my planning procedure for Unit 1 of Gentle + Classical Sequence 1. My goal is to collect all of the books and resources needed for the unit into one central place so that I can access them quickly and easily, and to jot down ideas for extra activities and anything needed for the week.

Honestly… this video was fantastic. I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this curriculum, and this was very very helpful. Thank you especially for showing your substitutions and modifications. I want to do that with certain resources without over complicating everything. I just need to find a good spine curriculum guide that I can modify rather than reinventing the wheel. I like memoria press enrichment and I like Sonlight and I like this. So…. lol. More to think about. I like that sequence 1 manages to run a world cultures study along side the more specific US history topic. I also like that long chapter read alouds are scheduled alongside picture books. This is honestly a nice sounding balance. I also like the slower pace of artist and composer studies than what memoria press schedules. I have lots to think about. Thanks!
  • I’ve really enjoyed the morning menu as well as on mission magazines. We have 5. Thank you for an insight to your planning.
  • I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I love how simple you make everything. My planning looks so similar to what you showed here! I am stumped with what I am going to do with my little guys for history and science. We do Classical Conversations for memory work which includes science and history and I am truly in the camp of you don’t need formal history/science curriculum with the littles. But I just want to add more literature for them next year because they LOVE stories/read aloud time. But I’m having a hard time figuring out what to do because, even though I know I don’t NEED formal curriculum at these ages for these subjects, I like having some structure/direction to follow rather than just pulling random books to read. Anyway—-maybe your new Kinder curriculum will be just what I need to provide a guided tour of good literature for my little ones next school year! (It doesn’t even have to cover history and science topics! I just want a guide to follow for some good literature!) Oh, we just did American History this year with CC Cycle 3 memory work and it looks like that is covered in Sequence 1? But maybe Seq 1 would still be a good option.
  • I find the planing a pit quicker as I kno what we are doing and what we are swapping out or not doing now!!! My older kids have their own copies of the cards as I bought the pdf version!!! We’ve just done the Jonah morning virtues and my older kids loved it!!! We are using Aesops fables!!! My older kids are doing the sequence one spelling!!! We use on mission without extra books and we love it!!! My older kids are hearing stories on the Vietnam war!!! I definitely kno what books we are using and what’s in them by now!!!
  • Do you think a non-calvinist could use the Ology and the catechism statements in sequence 1? We learn Arminian and Anglo-Catholic and I love gentle and classical but wondering; f we would have doctrinal differences with the catechism elements now that they are getting more specific.
