Quonset Hut Build day 6

How Many People Does It Really Take to Build a Quonset Hut???

I attempted to stand up quonset hut arches with only 2 people but I was not able to do it. For my method you need 4 people to stand up arches

At Rock Hill Farm and Homes we upload new videos at least 3 times per week, about our 20 Acre hobby farm, our John Deere 2038R compact tractor and other equipment, and the businesses that we run.

These businesses include a manufacturing operation, a Christmas tree farm, real estate investing, a lawn care business, and an online retail store. I demonstrate how I am able to use these ventures to earn a good living without a traditional job.

We have some cool toys and always think outside the box on our little homestead so come along for the ride.

You can expect new videos from us every other day, usually around 8 AM.

You're killing me with that cement bit!!!
  • Even though it didn't go as planned. You tried that is what is important 👍👍
  • I truly appreciate your willingness to share the full experience. I've also enjoyed the additional humor you've added....like "that ain't going nowhere". Good job trying it another way. You'll have this all figured out by the time your finished! haha
  • Extension mount on your forks with a cradle...good honest video don't give up.
  • Ruled that method out. Now you know. You’re still making progress
  • Can't win 'em all. Chock that one up to experience and press on. Keep that thought process churning!
  • @khtractors
A for effort! This project has really been a bigger task then I ever expected. The only way I know to speed this up is to have a smaller building 🤣! You always keep a positive attitude, that’s admirable! Take care!

Your humility is a great trait, Brock. Best of luck the rest of the way through!
  • Let the tractor do the lifting. Stack a couple of those baskets you have on the forklift Tom down secure him put some carpet or something on the edges where the arches will make contact lift it up slowly move it forwards set it in place and you’re done.

Your struggle is real. I think that with a rented extend a boom forklift, you could whip it out quick....

I set the rafters on my barn with my 2520R Deere ( 2010 model....previous generation to yours). I welded a 2” receiver to the middle of my bucket top, slid the 12’ long gib pole in it and drilled for a receiver pin and hook for the end. Then went out about 2’ from the bucket and welded a bottom leg on it that rested on the bottom of the bucket for support. On the two upright poles, I clamped boards to rest the rafters on at the right height. I then tied a long rope to each side of the rafter and ran it back to my tractor seat. I lifted the rafter onto the clamped boards and used the ropes to guide the ends...sort of like riding a horse With reigns. Then climbed the ladder to bolt them to the upright ends. Built the entire barn by myself....with invaluable help from my Deere

So if you could start it over again would you have just put a pole barn up this building looks like such a pain
  • @robertlee8714
I wouldn't call it a fail but a learning experiance. Hang in there!

Im building a 50ft x90 ft quonset right now. Rented a tele handler, decided it wasnt worth the risk to try and lift even 5 of the nine panels per arch. We bolted up 3 side pieces on each side and then lifted the center three up and placed them in the middle. 50 ft wide and 21 ft tall dwarfs this guys biilding. The manufacturers recommends not trying to rsise full arches on anything 40 ft wide and bigger. 405 panel and 9000 bolts is what were uo against. We have finished 21 of the 45 arches needed for this vuilding this week. I had hopes of doing it all but rlthe shear size if this thing is daunting. Happy where we have stopped they will pick up the tele hsndlee tomorrow. I will rent it again in a week or two once ive rested and pre assembled the other 205 panels. These things are really time consuming but at the end of the day you have a finished building.

💥 I thought you had a pretty good plan there. Too bad it didn’t work. I’ve been enjoying watching the progress. 😁👍 Keep on tractoring!
  • @madtater5948
thanks for sharing the video, you were so close, I would still do a homemade boom with a piece of steel tubing bolted to your bucket and use two eyelets about 10 ft apart one on each side to balance the arch using rope from the eyelites up to the boom. put put the backhoe on the tractor to use as a ballast
