This film was very precious to Colin Firth, yet it was lost and recovered by a miracle. A fan did so much 'lobby' for its release in DVD format (after an initial release as VHS), that he succeeded. 'A Month in the Country' (initial title "Falling Man', 1987) is a masterpiece film, Colin Firth playing a man coming back from World War I, with a crippling stutter. He has to restore a mural painting (showing a medieval image of hell and an unexpected image of Jesus) in a country church in the north of England, hidden under layers of white paint. Another veteran, James Moon (Kenneth Branagh), is looking for the grave of an ancestor, who fought in the Crusades. A very delicate love story develops between C. Firth's character and the vicar's wife (Natasha Richardson). Based on J.L. Carr's novel, directed by Pat O'Connor, Irish director (Colin Firth will collaborate with him again for Benjamin's Crossing, 2018).

Colin Firth is so gourgeous in so many levels, his voice, his hands, his manners, his wit, his intelligence, his height, how he walks, his longs legs, his posture, his face, of course, how well spoken he is and when he smiles he enlights the room. Men like him are scarse, which is utterly sad for humanity.
  • In these interviews, I always notice two things about Colin Firth: 1. His voice; and 2. His beautiful, expressive hands.

A Month In The Country is one of my favourite films. Every now and then, I feel the need to rewatch it.
  • I fell in love with Colin Firth and his acting in 1984, he was about 24 and I saw him in "Another Country" - my love for him has never waivered - he's fantastic to watch and what a talent!
  • It was the first ever film I saw with Colin Firth which was the start of my becoming a fan and trying to get an opportunity to watch the other works he did. I consider myself lucky to have seen most of the movies and television shows he has done and my admiration for his ability to master his craft continues. Thank you Colin for being you and sharing with the world the gift that you possess!

  • It's a wonderful film. Genuinely moving. Brilliant to see that it means so much to Colin Firth.
  • He is so handsome, polite and i’ve been in love him since 1995.❤❤
  • Just love Colin Firth ….Cannot understand why he is still single after his divorce from Livia .
  • Stumbled on the book last week in Waterstones and wasn't sure if it was the same story. Very glad it was. Each in its own way a little gem. Carr's prose is a delight and it's hard to believe the film wasn't shot in a hot, dust August- the power of cinematography!
