A young boy faces a daily battle with a rare condition which causes him to severely injure himself. Davey Wicklund, 11, from Renton, Washington, has a rare inherited disorder that affects his muscle control called Lesch Nyhan syndrome. Davey’s mother, Jaren explained: "Lesch Nyhan syndrome is basically cerebral palsy with self injury. Davey has got the extreme. He cannot stand, walk, he cannot pull his head up for long time, independently. He has got the muscle strength, but not the ability to control.” The parents have to take special measures daily to ensure that Davey doesn’t hurt himself; including arm braces, kangaroo-type pouches to tuck his legs in and a rubber mouth contraception to stop him biting his lip.

the fact she made the things to avoid him hurting himself makes me feel like she deserves more recognition for it

"1 year 4 months" why is this the only parent ive ever heard not say their childs age in months, why do i feel the need to thank her lmao
  • Nobody is talking about the caretaker. I admire the parents for their love in Davey, but the caretaker is also very loyal, so good job Cynthia! (And the parents)

i love how at 2:38 she said "do your best"...she wasn't yelling at him to calm down or blaming him for anything, she just told him to do his best. they are wonderful and loving parents.
  • @Hoggod
I'm glad he was born atleast into a seemingly wealthy and economically stable family, which can afford all his needs.
  • @leontoeides
No offense but this boy is: 50% cuteness. 50% DANGER.
  • @kinoko6096
It’s such a blessing for him that he could be born into such a loving family with a perfect school and caretaker for him. It’s wonderful seeing him be able to live his life to the fullest even with his disability.
  • Seeing him just be a normal, regular boy even with his disability- that brought me so much joy for no specific reason. I'm able bodied, I don't have to deal with that, and I'm thankful that I don't, but look at him- You get to see him being so happy and kind and caring, and everyone around him is so caring as well- that feels like it's important. Below all of that, he's just a boy

Use me as a “I’ll stop taking my parents for granted and I will respect them”
  • Damn the mom is so intelligent, I swear she needs to be recognized for how far she’s gone to stop her child from hurting himself
  • @Kari2025
I tried googling him to see how he’s doing, but couldn’t find any updates. I hope everything is going great for Davey, his family, his caregiver(s) and his teachers.
  • I love how the pictures she takes were showing him disabled but happy. Like how she said usually disabilities are pictures in a negative light , hers really captured the fact he was both happy and proud to be himself.
  • @captainngoose
They include him. They love him. They take care of him. THIS is love. They LOVE Davie. They don't consider him a burden at all. (Yes he can be difficult to work with, but they don't consider it a burden.) It's sweet.
  • @AidenYuso
The fact that he's gonna live until his 20's just makes me wanna tear up cuz he just doesn't deserve to live that short and in a such a condition
  • @odetoclear
it must be hard emotionally to never be able to stay close or hug/kiss your own son bc he might injure you. she seems like an absolutely amazing mom, i hope she and the rest of the family is doing well
  • @OhK746
I really like how his mom understands her other children’s combination of love and frustration with Davey’s condition. She seems to accept and appreciate all her children, which is a challenge in any family with a severely disabled family member.
  • @arijeanz
the fact that she says "yeah, my other kids love him but they dont like having to take care of him sometimes" so openly is just. so lovely. sometimes i see kids like this and their siblings are being interviewed and you can see how tired they are and how fake theyre being bc their parents probably drill a servitude mindset into their heads
  • @elizabeth712
That mom looks like she’s aging twice as fast as she should. I feel bad for her she just looks so tired :(
  • @JoeAndBo
I actually went to elementary school with this kid! Didn’t know anything about him, but I definitely saw him around the school sometimes. It’s interesting to learn about this disability since I was always curious
  • This woman is legitimately so intelligent. I feel so bad for David. That would honestly be so incredibly hard. She's a damn godsend. Amazing parents that she has. I actually wonder if he's on medication to calm him. This would take so much work. She's absolutely an amazing Mother
