Great video. I ran this train as an engineer for years. Never was tired of looking at the coast whether it was a sunny day, foggy day or at night.

I highly recommend going in the winter. Seeing shiny, fluffy snow as you pass through Oregon is gorgeous. On my trip, I was able to wake up at 5am to see the sunrise at Mt. Shasta. 10 out of 10 trip.
  • I did this trip about 12 years ago. Visiting from Australia and staying with friends in Ridgecrest CA. I travelled from LA through to Vancouver Canada with many stops along the way, such an amazing experience and had a sleeper berth which made the trip more comfortable. As a sole traveler, the conductor would seat me with different people for meals and ended up meeting so many nice people, they loved the Aussie accent - lol😁. Ended up hugging everyone at the end of the trip. I would definitely do it again.👍👍

If you’re lucky enough to have someone you truly love alongside of you in your travels then you are blessed whether it’s on Amtrak (& I really enjoy Amtrak and trains) or any other place because you get to share your life with someone you truly love!
  • Without Jeb experiencing cross country travel on the rail, I never would have considered travel in this manner in the US. As an Australian, I really want to try these journeys and experience the amazing landscapes of the US in this relaxed manner. Thank you Jeb for the videos and keep informing and entertaining us with your travels!

The "is this room big enough" segment is a cute change of pace, but it's actually also really useful to get a functional idea of the space.

I love so much that Suzanne is taking such a leading role in your videos these days... you two complement each other so well, and I just love how nice and normal she comes across... so refreshing in a world dominated by influencers and celebrities. You rock Suzanne!
  • I was born and raised on the central coast in calif, I love our fields and mountains to breathtaking sunsets over the pacific. I love going for drives towards the inland area, looking at farmland. I’m very fortunate to live in such a beautiful area. ❤

Greetings Jeb. My Father (RIP) was a Sleeping Car Porter and from the ages of 7-14 the Coast Starlight was Dad's regular route. During that time, it ran from Oakland's old 16th Street Station to Portland. I was fortunate to be able to ride with my Dad at least twice a year; once or twice in the summer and also during Christmas break. I enjoyed the winter trips because we never had any snow in the Bay Area and their was plenty to see in the Cascades during our winter train rides. Thank you for bringing back a lot of fond memories. I still remember every nuance of that route - and the train ride between L.A. and Oakland too; as we traveled that route several times on our way to catch the Sunset Limited in L.A. to visit family in New Orleans. BTW, Klamath Falls is pronounced like the shellfish - as in "Clam"-math Falls. Thanks again Jeb. You brought me tears of joy for the memories of the time I shared with Dad on that route. 🤗🤗

I'm a Pacific Northwest trucker and I happened upon this video while catching a break in Chemult OR. I honestly had no idea Amtrak ran through here!
  • I took Amtrak train twice before from Los Angeles to Chicago. It was such experience & fun too! You get to see the country. Loved it!
  • @BobDiaz123
I've done that trip many times and it's always wonderful. Friends ask me why I just don't fly. What they'll never understand is the the journey is the destination.
  • @tjseid
I’m so happy Suzanne has been joining the videos lately, both of your energies work so well together. Keep up the great work you two! :)
  • @ochbad
I think Jeb, Suzanne, and this channel have done more to increase Amtrak ridership than anything else in recent memory. Trains are cool again! Full observation car? Victim of your own success! Thanks for the great content you two.
  • I rode the Coastal Starlight a few years ago from Seattle to LA. I also had a sleeper room. I loved the journey. The train is your vacation, not just for transportation. ❤
  • @sauce33
I did this trip solo from OC to Portland about 10 years ago, it was a great experiece. spectacular views & met some great people. can't beat traveling by train.
  • LAX based train attendant who discovered your channel as an av geek. Thank you for your including train travel & your appreciation for Amtrak! I always wash my hands after doing push-ups on the dining car aisle, lol. East coast long haul trains need full service dining cars. When I work CS trips that stretch between Klamath Falls & Eugene gets me every time, particularly fall & winter. Great to see Suzanne, you two are a comedic duo.

Looks awesome. I'm 50 years old and had never been on a real train before. But thanks in part to your videos, I took the Zephyr over the summer and am taking the Coast Starlight in December. Hopefully I'll see snow.
  • Just booked this trip for me and my husband to celebrate my birthday in 2023. I never would have known about this route if it wasn't for you Jeb. Love the videos. Keep them coming!

This was such a treat. I am from San Luis Obispo county but living internationally and road the surfliner back and forth between San Diego to visit my family and SLO. I recognized where all your shots were taken on that leg of the trip, it was such a nostalgic flashback. I may try this train next time
