Not gonna lie, that frame actually made me jump after rewatching it. I paused when it showed and you can see how it goes up to his eyes! There are many theories regarding his smile but regardless your description of his face ripping apart is truly unsettling.

I’m someone who smiles under heavy stress. I’ve caught myself smiling before during mental breakdowns similar to how alastor does. It is 100% a coping mechanism I started doing as a kid that just stuck. Idk if he’s being forced to smile there but he may be forcing a smile as a cope if that makes sense

I really love the smiles Alastor has with Rosie. Him and Rosie are like platonic soulmates and during “Ready For This” when they had their music number, he seemed genuinely happy. About what? Idk, maybe he does have genuine feeling for Charlie(platonically you sicko) or he is happy that his plan is coming together.
