Obamas try to balance messages of hope, warnings of perils of Trump in keynote speeches

Former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama tried to leverage their standing within the Democratic party to help lift Vice President Kamala Harris to the Oval Office and encourage Americans to get out and vote in the upcoming presidential election.

Barack Obama also noted how tight the election is expected to be, with likely just tens of thousands of votes spread out through a handful of swing states being able to tilt the balance of the Electoral College.

Barack Obama’s speech comes 20 years after his appearance at the 2004 Democratic National Convention catapulted him into being a rising star in the party that he would turn into a presidential nomination and making history as America’s first Black president just four years later.
