Six months after the city cleared campers from the streets lining Laurelhurst Park, reps for all five Portland city commissioners on May 7 met with activists protesting the idea of another sweep. Those activists say they’re protecting the dozens of people who returned to the park months ago, making the Southeast Portland neighborhood look like the city had never intervened.

Imagine spending $800,000 on a house and theres a line of homeless people living in tents on your sidewalk.

The people feeding them should take them home and let them camp in their kitchens, living rooms, bathrooms, and bedrooms.

The neighborhood residents complain but they all voted for the politicians responsible and they'll vote for them again in the next election.

Court order the activists to house the homeless in their own homes, while they negotiate with city officials.

Build all the homeless shelters next to Wheeler's house, Brown's house, and Portland City Councils homes. Take all the homeless people and house them there. Let these powerful and rich people take care of them.

The situation has absolutely gotten out of hand. I live two blocks from the camp and my car has been broken into twice. This is pure incompetence by the City of Portland.
  • Unbelievable. I'm still doing the happy dance that I wasn't stupid enough to buy a house in Portland.

This started when the City of Portland didn't put their foot down and say no to homeless camps at the very onset.

You have 2 choices, stop voting for liberals, or move out of Portland.

Toxic compassion and tolerance doesn't help anyone in this situation. Sometimes the best thing you can give someone is tough love.
  • Imagine having a multi-million dollar home across the street from this mess. My wife and I almost moved to the Laurelhurst neighborhood last year... Really glad we didn't. My heart sincerely goes out to the residents dealing with this.

Neighbors need to take matters into their OWN hands!
  • Spoiler alert: results of the meeting are to ask for more tax dollars, pocket it, continue to “work” from home and not come up with a solution
  • If these fools want to help them and protect the homeless then move those homeless people into their homes to cook and take care of them.
  • @Randydaudt
Load up the homeless and take them to the activist's homes to live!

The city officials all want police accountability…. I think Portlanders would like city government accountability
  • @Kharkovkid
I`ll bet dollars to doughnuts that the park was pushed as a "plus", when those people nearby bought their homes.

Saddest part is Laurelhurst neighborhood has one of the highest property ratings in the country. Let that sink in
