We're back with Voxras and switching over to FoundryVTT! This is the second half of the first conversation we had with Vox, and we dive into Foundry itself in this one. We guide him through purchasing, downloading, and installing Foundry, then give him a quick tour of Foundry's basic systems.

This is a great conversation to watch if you're curious about how Foundry's interface works, or if you want to relive the magic of discovering some of Foundry's basic functionality! Please enjoy and let us know if you have any questions for the three of us.

  • Thank you for this series. I am a long-time Roll20 user about to the make the switch. This will be extremely helpful.

I initially skipped over these videos because I've never been a Roll20 user. But episode 4 came on my playlist and I watched a few minutes and realized hey wait... this is an amazing resource for ANY new Foundry user! There are a ton of high-level overview resources, and a ton of in-depth tutorials on specific subjects, but this is the best guide I've found that is sequential, in-depth, AND all-inclusive. Thanks so much for doing this! And I'd consider adding some sort of "Foundry for beginners" tag, because I think the appeal is MUCH greater than Roll20 conversions.

I recently transitioned to Foundry and have been zooming through all of your videos, especially the ones with the creators showcasing their modules. Thank you so much, has been a life saver!
  • This is valuable, in particular because the actions happen at a speed I can follow. Often instruction videos go so fast without saying what they are clicking on or doing that I have a hard time following. The verbal instructions to a new to Foundry user are just what I need.
  • @leavlas
Ive been on Foundry for about 2 years , but i still watched this video with great interest. And im excited to see the other parts too!
  • @mikeem3385
Outstanding! Wish I had this video when I got into Foundry.
  • I love whenever I get to show someone Foundry for the first time. And that first "good" scene you get to load for someone, this is so fun. Seems like you got that "wow" from Vox in this one. He will have plenty of "wow" moments in this series I'm sure. Great job with everything. You and Z are for sure my modern Bob Ross!!

So fun to watch Vox's world literally unfold before him :D
  • @rlovindeer
I enjoyed seeing the first modules you installed and it's so rad looking at how that basic selection has evolved. I would probably recommend two old staples for anyone getting into Foundry: Dice So Nice and Dice Tray. Interacting with dice is such a big part of the tabletop gaming experience and those two make it both extremely accessible and viscerally pleasing.

So, I defintely wanna see him react to the flashy bits, so AA, JB2A, FXmaster, etc. Then, Midi, obviously, just to blow his mind. And i know with v10 it will probably change a fair bit, buuuut maybe a quick glance at Monks Enhanced Journal just to show him whats possible ^^

Just switched from Roll 20 to Foundry VTT and this is an awesome series to follow along and learn. Only thing I found is when I downloaded the Baileywiki Free Maps Pack I am getting an error that it can't unzip it. Anyone else have this or is this because it is version 11?
  • When I installed the Baileywiki Free Maps Pack it failed on 2 of the dependencies (token-attacher and lib-wrapper).
  • @signaltome
Is there any reason I can't get the free Baileywiki pack? "Error: Unable to load valid module manifest data from--" etc and then "The Compendium pack "actors" of the "Actor" type must declare the "system" upon which it depends at Module.installPackage---" which refers to a destination on my Foundry install directory. It could be something on my end (it probably is. It ALWAYS is! 😛) but to the best of my knowledge I followed this video as far as it goes. I had to install v10 manually because the update messed up some stuff. So I uninstalled, deleted the install folder with some added data because the uninstall usually leaves it for some reason. After install I still got some errors about deleted modules being incompatible but a quick %appdata% removal fixed that so I restarted Foundry again for good measure and getting the first two modules mentioned went okay. Then this thing with Baileywiki, as previously mentioned. I had the same issue after I decided to continue with the Midi SRD (which I THINK you guys god in addition to quality of life) but not sure if I really need that? Anyway, I would really like this to work but apparently I am dumber than a log even though I have used computers for 28 years of my life. Well, this is fairly new to me, dabbled a few months ago before finding something else to do but decided to go at it with some help this time! 😀

So is it just the $50 fee to run a game or is it $50 per person?
