I really do have the most wonderful community here on YouTube. Thank you for *getting it*. And for everyone asking where Vilk was: he was being boarded at a trusted facility! Obviously this is not the kind of adventure I can bring him on - dogs aren’t allowed on trails in National Parks in the USA, and obviously he’s still way too young to start running. Thanks for all your kind words ❤

In mountain climbing they say getting to the summit is optional, but getting home is a requirement. You absolutely made the right choice.

Hi Eva. I was a firefighter/emt for many years in a rural part of the northwest USA. Time and time again we'd get sent out to rescue people simply because they did not know when to stop. It is incredibly sad to have to carry a body of an otherwise healthy person down a mountain because they didn't know when to say enough is enough. I'm not a fan of solo camping because I have seen the results of a simple fractured ankle lead to starvation and near death. Please be careful and don't hesitate to race another day.
  • My wife is an ultrarunner, before lockdown she was doing 80k ultras a day events. Do you know hat she is the most proud of? The times when she was participating in big events and quit because her body told her so. IT is easy to keep pushing until you drop. It is waaay harder to know when to quit! Always!

I'm a former special unit police officer and vet of two branches of the military. THE hardest thing to do is listen to yourself and drowned out the squelch, usually coming from other people, or society or pride. Mental toughness INCLUDES knowing when to say when. You, my friend, are tougher and smarter than most hard asses I've known. You do you and press on. You're doing great and I, for one, admire you.
  • I'm a certified Wilderness First Responder, if I had come across you on that trail and found you that ill, I would absolutely have implored you to turn back, those were some scary red flags, and you absolutely made the right decision. Just imagine, all of us watching just transcended time and space to be with you in spirit in that moment, encouraging you to be safe and turn back. So proud of you.

Eva, I am an old school US Marine, and you are absolutely correct in that there is a time and place for stopping and turning around. It isn't quitting if your life is in danger. You did the right thing in turning back and not continuing on. What I saw in the video was classic altitude sickness and the only way to cure it is with time. I was born and raised in Colorado (6500 ft) and now live in Oregon (400ft.) My body adapts to the change in altitude very rapidly but yours obviously doesn't. always listen to your body as opposed to your mind. Your mind will tell you that you can continue while your body will tell you the truth. Keep making the videos real and your followers will stick with you.
  • SO proud of you for publishing this video! It definitely was the right thing to do. MANY people need to learn what you learned. Thanks!
  • Eva. The ability to recognize danger is a demonstration of maturity. Altitude sickness is nothing to fool around with. I am proud of the choice you made in the end. Living to tell the tale is the most important thing.
  • Getting sick while in the forest is nothing to joke about. You absolutely made the right choice by turning back. You didn’t quite, you made the right choice under your circumstances and made it back in one piece without any help. Much respect ✌️
  • @LaureReminick
This was not quitting. This was choosing life. This was maturity, and being true to one's self. Congratulations! You gained much!
  • I’ve just discovered your videos. This is not the first one I’ve watched, but I’m really glad you posted it. I am retired and well past being able to do such adventures anymore, but I’ve had my own failures, times when I had to turn back and say no and call it a day. It is interesting that at my stage in life, I realize I learned far more from these failures than from my successes and it is these failures that have given me some of the fondest memories and greatest stories to share with my children and grandchildren. The key skill that you’re showing here is wisdom, and that is the greatest skills to have in any adventure. I look forward to watching your future adventures. Whether you succeed or fail, they will always be enjoyed. And you and your audience will be all richer for it.
  • Eva... In my 74 years of life I have learned that 'perception of self' & the words you use to describe yourself are the most important things, i.e. - You didn't quit... Your intelligence told you it was more beneficial & self preservation(al) to turn back... 'Smart move' | You go places and do things that 98% of people would never dream of doing or trying... You push yourself out of your comfort zone... 'You are constantly growing' | I learned this: If you tried & succeeded = You Succeeded... If you tried & didn't succeed = You Learned... If you didn't try at all = You Failed... You, dear lady are on the right path of human growth... I congratulate you, on jobs we'll done!
  • My father always told me, ‘One thing is courage, the other is stupidity. It is up to you to know the difference.’ You made the right decision to turn back. It also took a lot of courage to make that decision. It wouldn’t have been wise to carry on with your journey. Loved this video. It wasn’t about quitting at all. It was about having the wisdom to make the right decision at the right time. You Rock girl!

"Funny how for some of us the unrelenting perfectionist among us, broken bones or impending death feel like the only valid excuses to stop." Ooph, I felt that. Im one of those people that has to finish what I started even if it kills me, and I've been learning those hard lessons over the years. So appreciative that you shared this journey even though you didn't reach your original destination- we need to see more of that from vloggers because that is real life. Knowing how to listen to our bodies, read our surroundings, and discern when to stop is so important. Major props to you for turning around even though it was a difficult decision.
  • @Alice-px7ev
You made great strategic decision. Thank you for this lesson. Never forget that you, your life and well being is much more precious than any achievement.
  • Eva, this is not quitting. This is being safe. So many people experienced hikers and adventurers lose their lives simply because they did not turn back in time. Thank you for being safe and for showing vulnerability. We hope you’re in better health and spirits now!
  • @nashandrose
Please always remember: We watch your videos because you are authentic, not because of your "never giving up"-attitude! Thanks for being so honest ♥️
  • @lisag1924
I loved watching your video. Your commitment to looking out for what is important in that moment was commendable. It’s not easy when you set a goal and it has to change but that in itself is growth. Good for you! 👏🏼
  • Excellent video!!!! I'm glad you're wise and listened to yourself and turned back. You're very brave and inspiring! Hope you're feeling better!🤗
