What Solving True Crime Cases Taught Detective J. Warner Wallace About Life

Published 2024-05-12
"Every murder investigation teaches two lessons: a death lesson and a life lesson.” For decades, cold-case homicide detective J. Warner Wallace investigated the causes behind deaths and murders, chasing one lead after another as he attempted to solve the case. Several of these cases remain open, unsolved mysteries. But even those that haven't yet revealed the identity of the killer do expose the truths of human nature: what's important to us, what threatens our well-being, and what causes us to flourish. Jim joins the podcast to talk about the lessons he learned about the meaning of life after spending decades solving cold case homicides.

Excellent interview and content. J. Warner Wallace’s points about humility, identity on things we do, transitioning to a different phase in life, and finding our identity in Christ and purpose, really hit home to me. A year ago I found myself losing a job and then struggling since to find that spark of purpose. Thank you for providing this discussion Alisa.

Gotta love J Warner!! I was a late comer to Christianity, but not quite as late as he 😊

Loved this interview. I think the way to fight that pride that we all naturally have is to stop comparing ourselves to other people, and only compare ourselves to God. This, it seems, is where true humility comes from. I think that's why Moses could write that he was the most humble man (Numbers 12:3) -- he was, truthfully, because he had seen God and known God and been close to God more than any other man. So he knew the truth of his own lack. To quote my pastor, "Humility is thinking accurately and honestly about who we really are in light of who God really is and what He has revealed to be true in His Word." Not that that's easy, but God Himself will help us do it when we focus on Him instead of on our own "goodness."

Did you speed his voice up? He sounds different than other times I’ve heard him speak . Great conversation! Thank you!

Hi Alisa, just a random thought, while watching this podcast. I couldn’t help, but to notice your logo was sitting close to your left side of your chest. That could be a cool Tshirt for your merch store, with maybe one of your book quote on the back. This me thinking out loud 😅

If you experience enough trauma, not just one, but multiple times, your body breaks down beyond recovery.
  • @jodiplocher860
I had PTSD. One day, I woke up and turned it over to God and have never suffered since.
