An EXTREMELY RARE, 1976 film-short of a romantic Pas de Deux Ballet to Pachelbel's Canon In D Major.

Dancers: Cynthia Gregory and Ivan Nagy.

Producer: David Hahn and Choreographed by William Carter.

May this beautiful film continue to inspire others to dance! Enjoy! :)

PS: Sorry for the over-saturated pink hue of the film! Will work on fixing that!

Also from the above website: THIS is a blurb of his experience creating this film short! swoon Even HIS words are as crystalline,
ethereally beautiful as the film he, the dancers and everyone involved, created:

Every career has a few golden moments: when the stars align and all the personalities and talents mesh to bring out the best in everyone.

In A Rehearsal Room was such a time for me.

For a young filmmaker to just walk up to two of the world's great dancers and say,
"I have an idea for a film, do you want to do it?"
And, they say, "Sure."

Find a choreographer who took adjectives and turned them into steps and turns and lifts.

A cameraman who didn’t put the camera on the floor (to make the dancers look like they are jumping higher)
and understood my vision to film the dance like it was a conversation.

On top of that, he got why I wanted the light to be "cold" instead of "warm" and actually lit on "dancer time," not on "gaffer time."

A dolly grip who was a poet of motion.

And an editor with whom I might as well have shared the same brain.

We all seemed to know it was a special time.

I was sorely disappointed to find out later that this didn't happen on all productions.
How incredibly lucky I was to experience it.

not about huge extension.....not about 400 turns....not about tacky pas....just beautiful amazing choreography done by amazing dancers.....thank you..
  • I have such wonderful memories of watching Cynthia and Ivan dance. And then I had the thrill and pleasure of dancing with her many times a few years later. Thank you for the wonderful memories
  • I saw this on PBS Television a good 30 or more years ago, and never forgot it, never saw it again until a few years ago when I found it on Youtube, Wow it was so wonderful to see it again and again now. most beautiful dance I have ever witnessed.

My husband and I fell in love to this video. First time we had heard the canon. He died at 46 on August 5th a number of years ago. This is a life-affirming video and I am blessed by it!

This dance will continue to give me goosebumps forever! I can't get over how fluid and graceful they both are! That's it, I'm going to recreate this dance, myself! Now if I could ONLY find a Partner!?!

When I was a ballet student in '73, I fell in love with a beautiful picture of Ivan Nagy that appeared on the cover of Dance Magazine. I danced romantic Pas de Deuxs with Nagy in my kitchen (no carpet!) for months. RIP beautiful man.
  • Simply exquisite! Cynthia Gregory, great ballerina, Ivan Nagy, great partner, great dancer-

Thank you for your kind words! Makes me more happy that I fought so hard, for so long to find and get my hands on this vid to share! :)

Thank you Ivan for all the beauty you brought into the world.  You are missed.

I have the full version. I tried to upload the whole thing, but it's too long to upload here. (11 mins). Glad others remembered this special little short and thanks for info about Ivan Nagy!

@AuthenticNavyPeaCoat As did I. My children and I would watch this in amazement and joy. Beautiful!

I am not sure I have ever seen something so beautiful or moving in my life. I know nothing about dance and came to this video through a series of links on YouTube that eventually offered this clip. This has touched my soul with both the musical and balletic beauty displayed.

    I used to watch this after I had my first baby in 1981. It inspired me to take ballet. I was taken by the music and such beautiful simplicity. I watched it on nickloedean when it first came out as a short.;
  • @LydiaRWilson
Cynthia Gregory looks like she just stepped out of a Degas painting -- so romantic, impressionistic and flawless in interpreting the music. I recall capturing this on a clunky VCR circa '79, and this film inspired me to give up high school to enter a professional training program for classical dance. Evermore grateful that you found and preserved this iconic and beautiful piece!

I saw this decades ago on the big screen - it was a short before the movie Giant. It was absolutely breathtaking, and you could tell the whole audience was stunned with it's understated beauty.

In the early days of HBO, the network exclusively showed movies and was not glitzy the way it is now. HBO actually filled in gaps between movies with short subjects rather than promotional material. This movie was one of the short subjects that aired. I remember seeing this on HBO and what an extraordinary impact it had on me. My!!,How much better HBO was back then when they kept things simple!!
  • @RisaKaplowitz
Yes, thank you for this. Truly special and unforgettable. Hard to find anything so nuanced and pure these days...

26 thousand views, now! So pleased to see this video still being is being appreciated! May it continue to inspire! 🙂🥰
  • Ivan Nagy is an embodiment of the music with his strong, graceful and expressive partnering. They flow almost as one ! Cynthia Harvey IS the music. Together they are sublime !
